I'm looking at tilling my plots this year with my 500cc Side by side. It has 4WD/Diff Lock, but I'm still nervous about burning up the transmission. Would an adjustable set of disc be the better way to go where I can set the height of the disc with wheels on the unit? Also anyone in BR sell that?

I tried it with a ATV disc and found the disc didnt have enough weight.

ATV discs aren’t heavy enough to bust dirt around here especially this time of year when ground is the driest and hardest

Would be better to use a tractor or borrow one to do it.

Be careful with the ground hog plow. You can really frickup your hitch receivers with those things. You're not going to be really able to breakup new ground with one. If you have ground that has been plowed before they will work.

I use my Honda Foreman 500 every year and it is plenty. I spray the plots weeks before. Go in with a riding mower and then disc and its golden

I'd worry more about my back using an atv, I'm glad I don't to that anymore.

I use my Foreman 450 every year with a pull behind atv disc and haven't had any problems. I usually have to strap some extra weight to the disc to get them to dig in.

I have a ground Hogg max for the Honda 420. It does well in sandy soil or established plots that were mowed. If clayish soils are too wet or too dry it sucks.

You tube videos show them starting from weeds and taking it down to bare dirt; but that takes a ridiculous amount of passes/time.

If it's a plot that a tractor can get to, use a tractor.

I just drag tires behind mine to scratch up the dead weeds and dirt. Works just fine without a true disc.

I have one that someone converted from a tractor disc and put a hitch on it. You need a beast of an ATV to pull it. I have a grizzly.

Typically not heavy enough for normal fields but can work great in bottomland timber areas. We’ve used them planting for ducks similar to this method YouTube - Planting for Ducks in Timber

Make sure you know the pH of your soil and if lime is needed

We use a old 1987 honda 250 and a fourwheeler disc with a tractor tire on it, found out going fast seems to work better and not bog the fourwheeler down to much. Plus free child labor and our plots are not huge helps!

I pull a king kutter with my 420 rancher. I put a couple cinder blocks on top to add weight. It seems to work best if I just go in overlapping circles

A few yrs ago I was doing small plots in the woods and just rented the biggest rear tine tiller from home depot that I could find. Worked my butt off but it did the trick.

Just do the best you can with what you have access to, I have prepped food plots with everything from a rake, to a tiller to a 200 hp tractor, just keep an eye on your equipment and try not to tear too much up

My foreman works well, I set it deep and throw a couple of sacks of seed on the back to help out. Manual transmission though.
