Using a shop vac to suck up leaves?

I’ve been putting off sweeping my back patio because I don’t want to move the furniture around.... you think it would hurt my shop vac if I just used it to suck up the leaves? It’s a fairly decent rigid shop vac.

Assuming it’s enclosed? I hit mine with the blower.

No it’s not enclosed... I just have all the patio furniture back there and if I put the blower on it I’ll have to move all the furniture out then move it back... was thinking I could just suck the leaves up it’d save some time

I bought one of those cheap(under 100$) corded combo vac/blowers about 10 years ago. That thing works great on medium size leaves, has a vac bag and mulches the leaves it picks up. Think it's a Toro?

I've got a 25 yr. old 16 gallon Craftsman Shop Vac that I just can't kill. I've used it to suck up sawdust and wood shavings in my woodworking shop, plaster bits and 100 yr. old dirt and dust when gutting rooms in houses, water when things flood from heavy rains from time to time in my back shed with a sketchy slab.
I just can't kill the damn thing. If the leaves are small enough to be sucked up, then go for it. You should have a cartridge filter in the thing to keep any big debris from getting to the real working parts.

I have been using the same Craftsman shop vac to clean leaves out of my AC condenser for about 30 years, dry leaves, dirt, sawdust its all about the same.

The last time I tried this the leaves got stuck in the hose.

It won't hurt it a bit. Might not work that great but you can give it a shot. I bought a 50' 1 1/2" hose off ebay for mine and use the shite out of it. Leave the shopvac outside or far away from where I'm working and go to town.

. It will eventually clog the filter. You need a leaf vacuum like a Billy Goat
