We used to use Dramamine patches. Is this still the best option for motion sickness or is there something new that’s better.

I was always a Dramamine and no dark liquor the night before kinda guy.

Got seasick on my first offshore trip when I was young after a night of drinking brown liquor. It was so bad that had to drop me off on an old rig structure so I could be on solid ground for a few minutes. I never want to feel that shite again so I take extra precaution and I’ve never had an issue again

I use the scoplamine patches. Just have some heartburn meds and plenty of water handy. It makes you cotton mouthed.

OTC Bonine (Meclizine) is what I prefer. No sleepiness vs the dramamine

If you have a tendency to get the motion sickness, go with the scopolamine. It's better, but it was Rx only last I heard. Side effects are blurred vision and dry mouth

Ditto- bonine…….not even close…

I don’t get seasick, but I’ve been offshore fishing my whole life. I require all newbies to take it if they’re getting on my boat…Nothing worse than turning around 20 miles offshore…

only had to turn around once but I was sure if I didn’t the dude was gonna die. Never seen anything that bad. It was hard to be mad at him at the time but he knew it was possible and didn’t say anything…

anyway, ginger is also a good palliative if you aren’t deathly ill. And those pressure point wristbands do actually work

I would just use Meclizine. But one trip we had some special compounded medicine that had promethazine, scopolamine, and something else in it. Worked awesome.

Cut them in half or 1/3s. You can also split it behind each ear and take one off if you don't think you need as much

Buy a relief band and call it a day. That thing has saved my arse more times than I can count. Scop patches dry you out and dramamine makes me feel like crap.

I've taken non-drowsy Dramamine and it was fine. Another thing to remember when you're out there is to try and avoid looking down. Keep your eyes on the horizon as best you can.

When you look down is when it will hit you.

Dramamine the night before, along with a 16oz Gatorade Zero.

The morning of, repeat.

You go out there pre-medicated and pre-hyrdrated and electrolited.

Two beers, one water, two beers, one water. Be disciplined. If it's super hot, do one beer one water.

This has been my formula for decades and hasn't failed me.

Also, put them on the day before you leave.

Ive gotten sea sick all my life. Never gotten over it. When I worked offshore doing ROV work, I took Bonine when I woke up and a Dramamine right when I got off shift and was about to go to bed. Never got sick as long as I was medicated and I get sea sick easily. Even in 15'+ seas.

I dont get sea sick but my brother does, hes an Nurse Practioner. His regimine is to start dramamine patches about 3 days before your trip, stay well hydrated, and stay above deck as much as possible.
