Nine bodies, believed to have been missing students, were found dismembered on a highway in Mexico, according to local reports.

The remains of four women and five men from Tlaxcala, Mexico were found on the evening of Sunday, March 2 in the municipality of San José Miahuatlán, state of Puebla, El Financiero reported on Tuesday, March 4.

Mexico’s national guard did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

"So far I cannot offer information, there are lines of investigation, but I cannot reveal them due to confidentiality,” Idamis Pastor Betancourt, head of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), said at a press conference on Monday, March 3.

If you go to have a vacation in Mexico, you’re gonna have a bad time. If you are lucky.

The US needs to help get this country on the right track....they are a horrible neighbor!

Anywhere outside of the state of Yucatán is asking for trouble in Mexico. The Yucatán doesn’t even want to be a part of the rest of the country. Mérida is one of the most beautiful and safe cities you could visit, shame the rest of the country is a crime infested hellscape .

Nothing in the article says they were Americans.

Just got back from there last month. I never felt unsafe walking around the city.

Neither better nor worse.

Just seeing that the facts are presented correctly.

I use to go to Mexico frequently. However, I wouldn't visit there now.

Rich college kids aren't wading the Rio Grande.

Rampant speculation, but my guess (and, yes, it IS a "guess") is that some or all of the parents are involved in the drug trade and that this is a result of a dispute between rival gangs/cartels.
