Oh they know. That's why they are reacting with their threats. Both sides know that sending in the police or military to crack skulls will cause a nationwide trucker strike and will be terrible optics. I think US truckers would strike too in support of their fellow drivers. You attack some of us, you're attacking all of us.

The government might let it go on and hope the public turns against them. The US and Canadian governments can use the truckers as scapegoats for many economic problems and the narrative is already being put in place.

It's the same with a spoiled child hearing the word no for the first time. They'll throw a tantrum but it will pass and they'll learn their role as the child again. The government will own nothing and it will be happy.
