My mother spent 30+ years working social services for the state of La (retired for a long time now). Ten were in food stamps, the 20+ was in child relocation (taking children from abusive homes). She's told me many times that, in this state (prior to her retirement), a mother would damned near need to snort coke off the table in the middle of the hearing before she lost custody of her child/children to the father.

Careful, thats like saying prosecutors win the vast majority of their cases, thats because they only take the ones they know they can win.
The reason men win more often when they contest is because they have a very good chance, otherwise, all things being equal, the children will end up with the mom. And the stats overwhelmingly prove that.
So lets do the math, men contest 33% of the time, and they win 60% of the time, overall men end up with custody 19.8% of the time.
