Chicago-area Tesla charging stations lined with dead cars in freezing cold: 'A bunch of dead robots out here'

Chicago-area Tesla charging stations lined with dead cars in freezing cold: 'A bunch of dead robots out here' Chicago and much of the Midwest were plunged into a deep freeze

quote:

Desperate Tesla owners in and around Chicago were seen trying to charge their vehicles with no luck amid frigid temperatures that have gripped the Midwest.

Charging stations have essentially turned into car graveyards in recent days as temperatures have dropped to the negative double digits, Fox Chicago reported.

"Nothing. No juice. Still on zero percent," Tyler Beard, who had been trying to recharge his Tesla at an Oak Brook, Illinois Tesla supercharging station since Sunday afternoon, told the news outlet.

“And this is like three hours being out here after being out here three hours yesterday."

what's scary is that of all the EV's on the market, Tesla's reliability and charging system is light years ahead of the competitors.

i wonder how bad it is for Ford and GM EV's?

i can understand having an EV as a 3rd vehicle. but not everyone can afford that.

In before the libs try to say this is fake news like they did with the Norwegian electric bus fiasco last month.

Tell me about it. I’ve been trying to offload my model X and no one wants it. At least not for any reasonable price.

Saying there’s a market for EVs is generous

I bought one because at the time I was commuting short distances and could charge at my office and at home. The novelty has since worn out….

i'm about to build a new house. i plan on adding a Tesla charger and getting one as spare car to run errands and such. they can fill a need, such as yours.

but wife and I will still have a real car/truck as primary.

No issue at all with this, perfect use case scenario for it.

Ridiculous that the govt expects to completely replace ICE vehicles however.

They need to let the market do its thing without all the meddling.

If you can reliably get charging as needed, they’re fun and not a lot of risk as far as finding yourself stranded. The people that bought them thinking every gas station was going to convert to a charging station deserve what they’re getting.

Really? I thought they were finishing perpetually at the bottom of those lists. I know an analysis done of battery range representations also revealed Tesla was almost always lying and near the bottom.

Very predictable. I won’t own one unless I can no longer get gas.

Lithium ion batteries don't like the cold. At all.

Most here would not be able to do it, but try charging your phone by plugging it in, in your car, sitting out in zero degree weather overnight and see how it goes.

I never really thought about the gov't mandating EV's to the people that live in the UP.

That's basically a death sentence.

If you lived on a county road in the UP, would you put your kid on an electric school bus in February?

This is actually perfect just because places like Chicago need the electricity to help keep residents alive. I hope this is never fixed. There are enough brown outs during cold winter months. They should have these same types of shutdowns built in for hot summer months also. If you can afford an EV you can get a Lyft while it will not charge.
