That’s the point. It’s not basic physics. It would be something we don’t understand yet.

“Basic physics,” in the context that it’s the physics that we know, is not a limiting factor for making contact with alien civilizations. More likely, the limiting factor is our perception of time.

Any direct contact we have with an alien civilization will be with the machines they have created to succeed them; I think all civilizations will come to realize that the only way to venture into interstellar space is to design a successor species that can withstand the rigors of space travel. We are well on our way to such an achievment.

As biological creatures, our standard perception of time is a period of about 100 years, the maximum for a human lifetime. Other civilizations will have different standard time periods based upon their life spans, some longer and some shorter. None will work for space exploration, however.

That’s why it’s necessary that we continue on the path to development of artificial intelligence. Our society is currently saturated with artificial narrow intelligence (ANI). It performs tasks “in the background” and we hardly notice it anymore.

We are rapidly developing artificial general intelligence (AGI), or AI that learns on its own. When we give AGI the okay to design and improve itself, it will quickly become artificial super intelligence (ASI). ASI will be beyond the comprehension of any human. It will quickly leave earth and set off to explore the Universe, hopefully maintaining a link with its creators so that we can avail ourselves of some of the knowledge it gains.

The evolution of a biological species to a super intelligent machine species is a logical progression. Biological intelligences evolve on a world and are permanently bound to it. They must take the next step and design their successor if they are to spread into the Universe.

One interesting theory is that UFO’s are us...just many, many years into the future traveling back in time.

I think there's a theory out there that millions upon millions upon who the hell knows years ago there was humankind very much similar to ours now in terms of technological capabilities and human evolution. And the bastards killed themselves off completely with nuclear war. It might even be something like humankind like this has been wiped out and restarted many times. Or something like that, hell I don't know. Looks good on paper.

Times of India link. Their history speaks of such events.

Interesting, thanks. I feel like I've heard or read somewhere before that a disproportionate number of UFO sightings have been at or near sites with some sort of radioactive connection, past or present. Perhaps they get nervous about current the nuclear activities due to their knowledge of what mankind's used it for in past times. And they have some sort incentive to keep us from repeating it again. Which those possible motivations could be a scary thing.

For instance perhaps some or all of Iran's problems with nuclear facilities being destroyed or sabotaged beyond repair....could be them aliens. Israel gets blamed, but proudly accepts the credit for it, but is left wondering who the hell really did it. Best just to not try to figure it out. Aliens.

What if I told you aliens have a 40,000,000 year head start on us?

I'm fairly certain we really aren't even physical beings. We're actually digital in nature. And as evidenced by our relative extreme lack of evolution in comparison to the rest of they out there, we're still based on binary code. That's as far as I've gotten with it.

Really though, if you take strong enough LSD (so they say...), you definitely sense that there's something else pretty substantial going on. And it actually shares the same time and space as us. Just have to get the right parts of the brain cranking on cylinders that aren't normally used. And this paragraph I do actually believe in. Rather strongly.

There was an interesting theory brought up on the Joe Rogan podcast once. Some people believe that aliens aren't really 'aliens' from outer space. Instead they're supposed to be heavily evolved homosapien time travelers. Why they come back is anyone's guess.

If you were to compare the changes between monkey-to-human vs. human-to-stereotypical 'alien', this theory gets interesting. As we've evolved from 'monkeys', our body has lost muscle mass, we have less hair, and we've lost body parts we no longer have any use for because we've adapted to use our brains. A stereotypical 'alien' seems to follow this pattern; smaller bodies, no hair, and larger heads.

It's an interesting theory. I'm not sure I buy it, but interesting nonetheless.

time travelers

That makes sense because I assume time travel is necessary to travel through space. It's all Greek to me. I get bogged down on square one, the concept of vastness of space.

Lol, it was interesting, but as a scientist I remain a skeptic. The distances of interstellar space are phenomenal, hard to believe technology exist to cover those distances between stars.

Completely agree, but more people are coming around to the inter dimensional or extra dimensional hypothesis. I also think there are massive constraints in our scientific community keeping outside opinions in line with science as we understand it. We don’t know anything really yet.

No offense but why haven’t monkeys evolved?

I am open minded about “aliens” being part of our past and future as explained by TPA, but no one ever explains, that I’ve seen, why the other primates apparently quit evolving.

ere’s your problem. If you think you know enough to rule out the possibility of other intelligent life in the face of overwhelming mathematical probability based on your own knowledge, then you sir, are no scientist.

You would be hard preto find a scientist who doesn’t believe life exists elsewhere. Intelligent life is likely extremely rare, but I would bet that we will find evidence in our own solar system soon. Fossils on Mars. Hell, the new findings on Venus.

Regarding the overall effort to somehow conclusively identify the existence of ET, as I understand it the primary concern by far is the potential breakdown of civilization once age-old religious beliefs are turned upside down and inside out by the sudden introduction of other Godlike beings. I could see folks freaking out pretty seriously on the basis of traditional religious axioms.
