I re-watched "World War Z" this past weekend and noticed some interesting elements...

- The protagonist/hero, Gerry Lane, is an investigator for the United Nations.

- Gerry Lane, traverses across the globe to get to the "safehouse" of the World Health Organization in which they figure out a vaccine.

- The first appearance of the virus and Patient Zero of the global outbreak was in China.

- The borders, i.e. "Jericho Walls" that were stood up to keep the zombies at bay in Israel, eventually failed.

This movie was released in 2013.

And the movie was a random zombie flick with the “World War Z” title slapped on it for name recognition.

In the book, Israel was the lone country who took reports of a zombie infection seriously and even offered Right Of Return to Palestinians to enter the country and live there, provided they proved not to be infected, with the borders to be permanently shut down once a deadline passed.

As a result, they ended up in better shape than almost any other country simply because being able to control their borders and taking things serious early meant they could control the infection and go on with life. As opposed to, say, epicenter China which was heavily depopulated in part because they suppressed knowledge about the infection as much as possible, causing it to spread across the world.

I think this has generally been the case in the case of cinematic adaptations of original works of fiction.

This is a case of the movie being an In Name Only, not a cut down adaptation.

All of that is a part of the book.

they figure out a vaccine

Pretty sure this wasn’t a part of the book, but one of those I Am Legend happy ending bullshits that Hollywoke is known for.

True, and I hate to be that guy... but this movie was completely different. Movie was just a shitty vehicle for Brad Pitt.

Mel Brook's son wrote the book.

That’s not his only decent read either.

1. In the book.

2. Not in the book.

3. In the book.

4. In the book but did not fail.

One of the best and most captivating books I ever read.

Oh and another thing. They didn't figure out a vaccine in the movie. They figured out a defense. They figured out a way to keep the zombies from attacking.

This thread is a little pathetic.

It was China but if you read the book, North Korea had a creative solution that's just so North Korea.

I loved the parts about the guys who had to go in to the ocean and kill them. You never see them coming out of the water in any other zombie film, but it makes sense.

It was really a magnificent book and there's so much that makes it so compelling. Not the least of which is that Max Brooks took the subject matter very seriously.

The book might be a bit much for the OP though.
