Methinks he is kind of forgetting the entire reason Mary and Joseph were in Bethlehem

WTF is that hanging on the wall behind him? A sheet with butterflies on it?

I'm guessing there's a sheet with rainbows and unicorns in there somewhere

Luke 2:1–5
2In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3All went to their own towns to be registered. 4Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. 5He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.

Mark 12:17 New Century Version (NCV) Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and give to God the things that are God's.”

Not really. His parents were on the way to a government-mandated census.

I'd posit that Jesus is the most documented individual to walk the earth... that and the obvious traveling for the census thing this pastor must have skipped over.

He's missing a lot of context isn't he.

Like prior to WWI international travel was almost entirely free from regulations, there were no passports.

You could jump on a ship and go just about anywhere in the world with no documentation.

Had he argued Jesus was a refugee when Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt to escape Herod, then he would have had a point. Ultimately though Jesus never really left the Roman Empire and just moved around different provinces. Rome cared about people moving into and out of the territories and not really movement from province to province.

He needs to be more worried about people leaving Jesus at the church and not letting Him into their heart and soul.

Jesus never left the Kingdom of Herod, much less the Roman Empire. WTF is he talking about?

This is why Protestantism is awful. Every a$$hole with a Bible fancies himself as the sole arbiter of Christianity.

His parents were also required to go to go back to their “own city” of Bethlehem even though they lived in another country.

But even then, he went back home.
