A Tucson man is being held on a $1 million bond in connection with a downtown hatchet attack earlier this month.

It was at a bus bench on the corner of Sixth and Broadway where Tucson police say Jacob Couch was attacked by a man with a hatchet. Now, his family is speaking out.

"It was very traumatic and there was a lot of blood," said Kristen Couch, the victim's wife.

After spending around 10 months in Los Angeles, Kristen and Jacob Couch, a married couple of 11 years, were on their way back to their hometown in Alabama until the unthinkable happened.

"I can't remember the last time. There's just been, a baseless, like, a senseless crime like this," Kristen shared.

As they were waiting for the next bus in Tucson, Kristen says an unknown man started yelling at them.

"I told the man, 'We're leaving,' and my husband bent down to, I guess, like get our stuff and he just came up behind him. And just [hit my husband with the hatchet] and walked away," Kristen spoke.

A hit to the back of her husband's neck with a hatchet, Kristen says it severed his artery, leaving him on life support.

"It hurts knowing that I couldn't be there to protect him because he protected me for my whole life," said Luke Couch, the victim's brother.

Three days after the attack officers found the suspect. 25-year-old Daniel Michael is charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous instrument and causing serious physical injury, according to the probable cause statement.

Now, both Jacob Couch's wife and younger brother are hoping to bring light to who he was.

George Floyd, Trayvon Martin etc.. are the irrational results of overly hyped , well funded PR campaigns intended to victimize thugs and intimidate the public to not speaking out against a very clear & obvious issue.

When you devalue life, allow mental illness to run rampant, and ignore obvious problems within a segment of society, this is what you get...

Absolutely unbelievable...

I'm sure his bond will get reduced to $250,000.

The perp most definitely should be charged with a "hate crime." Being that the victim was of another race and had done nothing to provoke the attack it can be reasonably presumed that racial hatred was the underlying cause.

Tucson has fallen. I live here, own a business and raised my kids here after leaving Louisiana. When I arrived almost 25 years ago it was a pretty nice town. We had a conservative leaning Mayor and normal city council. Fast forward and we have Regina Romero as mayor and went 100% in on defunding police and BLM. Our streets are flooded with drugs and lunatics, and they have taken over the bus stops, which buses are free since Covid. I drive by many daily that are gathering points for the criminally insane and drug users. It is crazy how bad it has become. Also, it’s not the Hispanic population that is the problem.
All of this would make sane people vote differently but Tucson has a very liberal base that will never change. All of our city leaders have TDS. There are some safe areas obviously, in the Foothills, Oro Valley, Marana, Vail, but the city of Tucson is getting what they voted for.

You mean you literally don't have to pay to ride a bus?

Joe Biden tried to warn us over and over and we didn't listen.

This young man deserved to die. I bet he even said the N word. If not, you KNOW he was thinking it.

Sincerely,

There you go again - trying to impose logic into an important political matter for the anythingbutdemocrats.

Logic itself is racissss!!!. It is a long overdue trait learned by ancient humanity as the best way to meet life's decision points with the best possible outcome after considering all known parameters that you have control over.

That antiquated feature of ancient lifestyles has been replaced by the modern progressive paradigm = Maintain POLITICAL POWER AT ALL COSTS - and that currently requires a large voting bloc of perpetually hopeless people who are dependent on the government for their essential food & shelter requirements, and are otherwise encouraged to act out any frustrations they may have with that lifesyle by creating havoc amongst their long time presumed oppressors.

This would be the safest country in the world if we reduced our population by 13%.

Wow. A quick Google search and I see that Kensington Ave in Philly has nothing on a Tucson bus stop. This poor couple probably had no clue. Writer calls it the "Free Crime Bus."

From August 2023-
quote:

This week TCFC received an unusually large number of pictures, emails and alerts to posts on nextdoor.com about feeling unsafe as riders of the Free Crime Bus. The Free Crime Bus is supported by Mayor Regina Romero and Tucson City Council members, Kevin Dahl, Paul Cunningham, Lane Santa Cruz, Steve Kozachik and Nikki Lee.

Below you will find photographed examples of what happens when a community does not enforce laws.

This notice on nextdoor.com titled "Not safe to ride the busses anymore" is an example of how some riders now feel a GUN is needed to be safe to ride on the Free Crime Bus. One employer told us their employees report the need "to carry knives on the bus to feel safe."

More recently-
quote:

• On April 5th, a couple visiting from out of state was attacked. The husband remains in critical condition after being struck in the neck with a hatchet.

A developmentally disabled woman was followed, raped, and assaulted March 30-31. 25 year-old Hunter Fred Paddlety was arrested. He was on probation for two felony offences. We have seen no comment why he was out of jail with two felonies by County Attorney Laura Conover.

Both attacks occurred this week as the City Council debated whether to reinstate transit fares. Despite the timing and severity of these crimes, neither the Mayor nor the Council has made a public statement. The lack of response from leadership is unacceptable.

I'm sure the Chinese have AI hard at work figuring out the genetic markers to exploit by making an elimination bug that is 99% effective against any specific race of people. They've already proven to be capable from their Covid trial run.
