“Well, my friends, that’s it. Yet another excursion into broadcast excellence in the can. Enjoyed being with you today, always do. And look forward to the next time. Thanks to Mark Steyn who has been in standby mode all day. Wasn’t sure I was going to be able to go today and then each hour I had to assess. But we made it. Thank you Mr. Steyn. See you all next time.”
Sounds like he thought he had at least one more show left in him.
You can listen to his last show and see a transcript here: His Last Show.

I actually just listened to it last week. I did find his sign off to be hopeful. It was also a pretty strong show minus a few mixups here and there as the disease progressed. He would slip up every so often on things that never would’ve been an issue under normal circumstances. Even a weakened Rush was better than most everyone else. He was that good and he was ours. God given talent that was honed into an extraordinary communicator on his cherished medium. I’m thankful for what he gave us.

I thought it was a great show with lots of hard hitting segments. I actually had hope at that point that he might actually be beating the cancer.

Your thread title made me a little sad. Not going to lie.

In hindsight I’m not sure I ever expected him to beat it. Rush was very open with us that it was an advanced stage. The fact that he made it as long as he did was miraculous in and of itself. So we should all be thankful for the extra time we were given with him.

I heard a repeat of his conversation with Trump on his 30th year anniversary. It's interesting to hear the things Rush said in his last few broadcasts. You could now understand his statements looking backwards. I heard him nearly every day for most of the show due to my business schedule. I'm able to be on the road and listen or in my office. I'm gonna miss his steady response to everything the left did as he exposed their hypocrisy. He level headed opinions of the day seemed to calm you down and take you away from the edge. RIP

I hadn’t listened to Rush in a few weeks and yesterday morning I was sitting at home in the cold and thought to myself that I should listen to Rush today.. unaware of his schedule or that anything happened to him. So I turn on the show at 11 and his wife breaks the news of his death. It gave me chills the day I made it a point to listen to Rush after a few weeks of not listening was yesterday.

He could dissect the left like nobody else. He knew them better than they know themselves.

That is an awesome coincidence.

I thought America's Real Anchorman sounded very strong his last two shows. I even mentioned it to my wife.
She reminded me of the Limbaugh Letters I have stored away - issues 1-60, the first 5 years he published the newsletter.
Mark Levin's comments on Hannity last night moved me to tears.
I don't think we realize just yet how much Rush will be missed.

Yeah, he sounded more optimistic at the end of his last show in February than he did on his last show before Christmas. I was really happy to hear him come back after new years. Glad we got to hear him some more.
His last full segment was about the marvel of the space program and the ability to land a rover on Mars I believe. To me, that was symbolic and fitting for him to talk about American exceptionalism the last time he was live on air.

I think why it hasn’t hit me or that I feel sad at his passing is that he left it all on the field. He fought the good fight. . Stage 4 cancer & barely missing a broadcast beat for a year... I dare say 99% of us who either love or hate him probably could not have done what he did.
Even his biggest detractors , in their heart of hearts , will have to admit that he showed more courage in the face of adversity than they ever will. Those who can admit it should show some measure respect, and those who won’t...They should be pitied.

I did too. That's why I thought maybe he was starting to beat the cancer. Should have realized in December when he said it finally hit him that he's under a death sentence that it was coming to an end. Just didn't want to see it.

Heard his show and it was similar to John Walton's last show in that something creeps up in your mind thinking it may be the last one, but there's a hopeful thought that you hope it isn't.
Nice post.
