Politico I know

quote:

With U.S. and European aid to Ukraine now in serious jeopardy, the Biden administration and European officials are quietly shifting their focus from supporting Ukraine’s goal of total victory over Russia to improving its position in an eventual negotiation to end the war, according to a Biden administration official and a European diplomat based in Washington. Such a negotiation would likely mean giving up parts of Ukraine to Russia For Biden, navigating the nearly two-year-old war in the middle of a tough election campaign — with former President Donald Trump and other Republican candidates openly mocking his efforts — will prove tricky at best. As it helps Ukraine shift to a more defensive posture, the Biden administration can’t appear to be handing the advantage to Putin after insisting since the war began in February 2022 that it stands fully behind Zelenskyy’s pledge of victory over Moscow.

It’s weird how it was,” we will fight Putin to the last man and will never settle for peace talks” to “ well, since the money is drying up, we have to settle for a peace agreement.”

This should anger everyone

Yep. NYT has started to float the editorials today on how a ceasefire with no reset to original borders is a win for the Ukraine and the world.

They will shift many positions in 2024 that they held previously and then pretend, they never held them.
Expect 24-7 gaslighting to try and separate Biden from his own disastrous policies.

Uh, this deal was on the table and should have been pursued a year ago. The terms for Ukraine are getting worse with each passing day.

If they are actually wanting to wave the flag on Ukraine, sadly I take that to mean we are about to ramp up elsewhere

In addition to the grifting, we got to clear out a lot of our arms stockpile and that will have to be replenished at taxpayer expense. “Defense” contractors and politicians have done alright.

Why should it anger us? It’s natural to change goals to fit reality. When I was a kid I was going to be a professional football player. By the time I reached high school I had given up that goal and was going to be a wealthy mogul. Now I’m a shitposter on tigerdroppings.

You are an idiot. Why are you giving Biden a pass for acting like an 8yr old? He should know better then wanting to be a NFL player.

I was, and am, in favor of supporting Ukraine’s war effort. Obviously this is not the victory we hoped for, but it is an outcome that will work for us.

Russia learned that this irredentism comes at too high a cost. It will be a long time before they try this again. Had we done what you wanted, and sat this out, Ukraine would be Russia’s and several key neighbors would be so intimidated that they would practically be vassals of Russia.

Hopefully China got the message, but I doubt it. We need to make a deal with Russia soon and arm the ever living hell out of Taiwan. Hopefully we have spent the last couple of years onshoring critical technological and metals manufacturing so we can embargo China.

Why support Ukraine? What about the democratic countries around the world that’s at war? Ukraine is not a democracy. Ukraine is A-hole.

It’s a money making scheme for our politicians tard.

100bil + in debt tons of dead and Russia getting exactly what they want is the outcome that works for US?

WTF this could have been the outcome from the beginning.

All the ot warmongers will tell you that was all soon the be trashed inventory. The erudite thinkers never question why it's critical and effective in Ukraine but we were going to throw it away.

Could have been achieved over a year ago. "Our strategy" is just us pulling their strings.

I doubt Ukraine has much say in the matter. We bought them.
