This one seems fun. I guess you aren’t entitled to due process unless you are a citizen and have reached a certain age. The slope continues to slip.

quote:

A federal judge in Louisiana on Friday said that a 2-year-old U.S. citizen appears to have been deported with her mother to Honduras with no meaningful due process.

quote:

The mother and her two daughters, including the U.S. citizen who is identified as VML in court documents, were seized Tuesday morning in New Orleans by Immigration and Customs Enforcement as the woman went to a scheduled meeting with the agency, lawyers opposing the deportation wrote.

quote:

Lawyers for the government said that the child's mother has legal custody of the child and that she indicated in a letter she would take her daughter to Honduras. The letter, in Spanish, reads, "I will take my daughter ... with me to Honduras." An image of the handwritten letter is dated Thursday at 6:23 p.m., when the woman and child were in ICE custody and before they were deported Friday.

ACLU Press Release

New York Times is also covering this.

What an utterly absurd argument. The mother has the legal right to take the child with her back to her home country. The child wasn’t deported nor was the child denied due process.

Well, you certainly wouldn’t want to separate them. It’s a well-known fact that family separation is about the worst thing that could ever happen. Hands are tied. Little fricker has to go.

Not separating families, Trump and team showing real compassion for a mother and child. Thanks for sharing

Mods, you *must* either anchor the op, amend the title, or discipline the poster for his insanely misleading title.

The mother has custody over the child and *chose* to take the child with her.

It has *always* been US policy to give parents the option to bring their children with them if they get deported. It’s not out of the ordinary and it makes the most humane sense

The Trump appointed judge disagrees with you.

But anchors away and full steam ahead. Handwritten letters penned while under arrest never lie.

In the OP’s defense, Judge Doughty, who is probably my favorite district court judge, wrote in his order that this may have been a due process violation.

Edit:

The key word is ***may*** Based on the note from the mother, I think it’s an utterly absurd argument.

Also, to the OP, Obama initially nominated Judge Doughty, but Trump re-nominated him, so that isn’t the “own” you think it is.

So the mother didn’t want her daughter with her? Strange take.

Did the mom want to leave her anchor baby behind?

Families can be deported together.

2-Year-Old U.S. Citizen Was Deported ‘With No Meaningful Process,’ Judge Suspects

That’s current the title of the New York Times article covering this story.

A US citizens being deported seems appropriate for a political board.

It may very well have been the best outcome for the child. The judge appeared to have a hearing scheduled to determine that.

But the mom and child ain’t dere no more. That’s why this is a story.

The OP would 100% be complaining if ICE separated the mother and child.

And Dora can come back one day, assuming the Supreme Court finds that anchor babies qualify for birth right citizenship.
