Shane Dawson and Ryland Adams’ Use of Surrogacy Showcases the Practice’s Grotesqueness
Ten other children were created only to be cast aside because they were not “optimal.”
quote:
YouTubers Shane Dawson and Ryland Adams announced the birth of their sons, Jet and Max, on Sunday. Dawson is the biological father to one of the boys, while Adams is the biological father to the other. The mother of the children — whom they called “the egg donor” — is unknown. A separate woman carried and gave birth to the children for payment. To attain the sperm to create the children, Dawson and Adams each masturbated alone in a clinical room that offered them pornographic magazines and videos as well as a chair covered in plastic. As part of the process, an additional 10 embryos were created and subsequently cast aside — and possibly killed — in favor of the implantation of Jet and Max, who were described as “optimal” embryos.
quote:
The use of surrogacy and in vitro fertilization is rapidly gaining traction. In 2022, the global surrogacy industry was valued at over $14 billion. The industry is predicted to experience 25 percent compound annual growth over the next decade to make it a $129 billion industry by 2032. In 2021, 413,000 in vitro fertilization cycles took place in the United States, from which 97,128 children were born.
However, those aren’t the only children involved in the process, as 12–15 embryos are typically produced in each in vitro treatment. E. Christian Brugger of the National Catholic Register recently calculated that this conservatively means that “more than two and a half million human beings” were “either killed or frozen in a single year in our country to fuel this sordid industry.” Fertility clinics, Brugger concluded, “are places of unspeakable evil, arguably worse than abortion facilities.”
The mass killing of embryos created through this process is, without a doubt, the worst aspect of in vitro fertilization and surrogacy. But the selling and buying of eggs, sperm, and women’s bodies — and the commodification of children, who are purposefully deprived of their biological parents — ought to awaken even pro-abortion advocates to their evils.
Remember though if you speak out against this in favor of traditional family values, you are an evil right wing extremist

Wait until these homos find out people will start screening for the gay gene.

Meh. If I were having a kid now, I'd want the most optimum embryo as well. I dang sure wouldn't take a chance with any issues.

Dunno. But these types of stories remind me of the big 'embryonic stem cell' debate from 2004. Kerry and Edwards PROMISED that Christopher Reeve would walk again if they got elected because they were going to push for funding of more ESC research.
Christopher Reeve died short of 1 month before election day.
Then Bush won.

How long before this is called racist, sexist, etc.

If you want to know what evil is, this is good example of it:

In vitro fertilization is abominable. My wife and I know a couple who went through the process and "disposed" of 6 other embryos. We could not live with that on our conscience.
If we could not have children of our own for one reason or another, we would 100% adopt. In facf, we've debated adopting anyway, even after having our daughter.

frick these people but there’s a bit more to IVF than that article speaks to.
How many eggs fertilize?
How many “grow” and make it to day 5/6?
How many come back after genetic testing as viable?
How many were lost after being placed in the uterus only to not attach to the wall?
Again, frick these douche canoes but don’t vilify IVF all together.

Discarding viable embryos is horrific but IVF itself is not “abominable”

2 “married” men having children by IVF through an anonymous egg doner.

Glad there weren't cameras everywhere when I was a kid, as I'd get cancelled for all the "ya test tube baby" retorts.

Same. Still one of my favorite movies.

Due to health complications, both of my cousins had to be conceived because of in vitro. I'll let them know that they are worthless and they were mistakes.

It’s easy for people to condemn IVF who had no problem having children. I have a genetic issue which prevents me from having children naturally. My wife and I are in the process of IVF and I couldn’t be more thankful that it is an option for us.
I have seen my wife, month after month, crying over negative pregnancy tests. If you do not know the feeling, you’ll never understand the desperation. Sure, adoption is certainly on the table. But it’s not a “back up” choice and shouldn’t be treated as such. Adoption is not for everyone. My wife and I may pursue that one day, whether IVF works out or not. But that’s a personal decision that you shouldn’t just suggest to couples struggling with infertility.
And regarding embryo storage, that is a very tough subject. My wife and I decided to do as little hormones as possible so that we could limit the amount of viable embryos produced but also have enough to bank for later transfers. Not everyone had this choice.
This isn’t a “wow, these people just discard embryos that aren’t genetically perfect” no. It’s much more complicated than that.
