I have no problem with this, and in fact, admire the determination.

What I do have a problem with is if they are working that second full-time job, while they are supposed to be on the clock for their primary job...which I'm sure is the case more times than not. Pretty easy fix...have them come into work physically, then they can do what else they want on their time.

If wfh employees are dumb and lazy, why do you think they can hold down two full time jobs without being caught? What if they have meetings scheduled at the same time? Do I think some do? Sure. No way this is a widespread issue you make it seem out to be.

If people are doing this in the private sector, good on them for trying to get ahead. Their employer either allows it or they aren't concerned enough to look into it.

For public sector though... we are all forced to pay taxes which pay the salaries for these employees. According to ZipRecruiter, the average salary among all federal employees is $106,462/year. As a taxpayer, if my money is going to fund someone making that much then I expect them to be doing enough work to equate to that level of pay. If they are routinely able to get their weekly job duties done in just three 8-hour (or less) days, then it sounds like they don't have enough to do.

If that's the case, then some positions need to be consolidated and that extra money be put towards paying down the debt.

How is that possible to get your 40 in on 72 hours?

How can a federal worker get their expected weekly work done in 3 days? C’mon man! I guarantee you she had timeto burn in those 3 days of teleworking after finishing up. Likely crossfitted and grocery shopped.

How are people working two full time jobs?

You can’t be on the clock at two places.

We are going to find out. The OPM Delayed Resignation program requires applicants to "prove" they weren't working another job, potentially, on government time. I'm sure IRS income records are/will be reviewed and those with multiple W2s or 1099s may be in some trouble.

There is zero way this is true. I know a bunch of people that work from home and I cannot name a single one of them that has a 2nd job unless you count something like day trading or managing a rental/Airbnb property as a “side hustle”. I don’t even know anyone that drives Uber, DoorDash, etc

This isn’t the problem. The problem is that people are completing timesheets/cards for 2 companies using the same hours worked. If you are W2 that is illegal (payroll fraud).

Are talking about Federal employees here, or all employees? Also, do you have a link showing proof that this is a widespread problem?
I work 2 days remote and 3 in the office (private accounting). Most everybody I know has a salary, no timesheets are used. You do your job or you get fired, as simple as that.

Because if they are only working 20-30 hrs in a 40+hr FTJ, and supposedly "getting their work done" while multitasking (another job, child care, home making, etc), then one of two things is true. Either they are underperforming in a poorly measured situation which cannot adequately ID underperformance, or the job criterion is woefully lax (or both).

This is the problem of viewing this through an hourly lens.

This concept of "full time means 40 hours" has died at forward-thinking businesses. Full time means handling your full load, whether that takes 20 hours one week or 70 the next.

This old paradigm just rewards the inefficient and punishes the efficient.

It's illegal to have 2, W2s, or are you saying something else is illegal?

When dishonest people work remote, they get more dishonest!

They hide out, become stealthy, and feel if they send an email every now and then, they are working.

If they're getting their work done - who cares? I keep saying this, the idea that there will be a magical change in govt if people go to an office is dumb. Govt was a wreck before covid when everyone worked in an office. It's still a wreck. The senior people would perhaps benefit from being in the office, but that's it.

This is to get people to quit, or generate reasons to fire them.

I can assure you if companies have just a GOOD" IT " Dept they can track online time on screen. Mouse movement with clicks and keyboard usage. Most high end companies have these programs to tract and follow employees. Companies will give you all the rope you want til. They are ready to hang you.

You can have 1000 W2s. There is nothing illegal about having a second job (but you already know that). What you can’t do is say you are working the same 9a-5p for two companies and “double dip” as a W2 employee.
