What is y’all’s stance on government banning high fructose corn syrup?

I’ve been in Europe for 2 weeks now and the ratio of fit:fat is much higher than in USA. I hardly see anyone morbidly obese and don’t think I have yet. I’ve had cokes, Powerade, and other drinks to compare to the ones back home and they taste just as good if not better/cleaner with sometimes less than HALF the daily sugar compared to American versions that use high fructose corn syrup.
Our government is a joke as of late, but personally, I think government’s job is to serve the people and protect. Too many Americans are overweight because of substances like high fructose corn syrup (which is cheaper to make and stronger flavor compared to regular sugar) are allowed in our products. In Europe, regular sugar is used, and high fructose corn syrup is banned.
I am a republican, and I’m also in favor of banning high fructose corn syrup for the overall benefit of American society. I think it’d seriously help the current obesity epidemic that’s worse than anywhere else I’ve seen. Wonder where others stand on this.

Shouldn’t be banned but the corn industry shouldn’t be subsidised either.

Government could distribute information and let the consumers decide but the lobbyists make sure that doesn't happen.

I know it sounds all big daddy but I really wish they would. Everything we consume has so so so much added sugar, even stuff we would never suspect. And the result is the massive morbidity crisis that you see and it's literally poisoning us.

High fructose corn syrup is toxic, but so are other highly process forms of sucrose, such as granulated and powdered sugar, and "invert sugar."
Honey, while it's regarded as a "natural" product, has the same chemical composition and the same effect on the human body; it's worse than blackstrap molasses, which does have significant amounts of phosphorus, potassium and iron.
Best practice would be for the government to ban them all-- for the sake of American health. They're killers; more subtle than AR-15s and SUVs, but still killers.

No it isn’t. It’s just labeled differently. You’ll usually see it as “Glucose-Fructose Syrup” in the ingredients.

Slippery slope. Many things can be banned under this assumption.
It basically narrates the Covid lockdowns and vaccines.

It is not the frickin government job to be our parents.

There should be a bold label on every product that contains HFCS. I shouldn't have to waste my time looking at the fine print back label.

Sugar is sugar. The difference is the sedentary lifestyles and overall poor diets that make Americans fat.

Sure.
But I wish more people would have the stance of banning the fricking government instead.

I ban my own. Don't need no stupid government to do it for me. I look for low glycemic index alternatives to normal carb like items. You just have to pay attention to the nutritional facts written on the side. Some times the "net carb" thing is a bit dicey but you can avoid sugars and carbs to some degree if you just pay attention.

They need to.
Everyone would start crezzing from withdrawals.

On the surface, it's sounds like a good move but I can't help wonder what the real motivation is for the move. I can't bring myself to believe the motivation is to help "we the people".
Even a broke clock is right twice a day, so maybe they are sincere.
I doubt it though.

Our government will ban HCFS only after they find an alternative with the financial backing to pay them to ban the original.
It’s all about making money.

There are a two main reasons for the obesity epidemic here in the US …highly processed foods and all sugar products. Obviously put lack of exercise in there as well. It is that plain and simple when you want to cut it down to the core problem. Just look at the proliferation of diabetes. It is astounding the increase we have seen in this disease over the past 40 years. What changed ? Note that just before that time frame is when sugar and processed foods became the staple of most Americans diet. We have been taught that USDA and FDA have our best interest in mind and they have blessed this so called nutrition. Nothing could be dither from the truth. As with everything that is involved with our government it comes down to money. Food lobby is one powerful organization. Just take the time to do your own research and see just how entire generations are being harmed by processed foods and sugar. The food industry is not the only ones making bank here. Note the massive increase in all things medical related. They can’t seem to build enough hospitals and clinics. Think about how many kidney dialysis locations you see now versus just 30 years ago, even 15 years ago. How many pharmaceutical commercials are you slammed with at every turn now? They are riding this coattail and promising to treat all your symptoms for life …not cure the problem. And by the way just ignore all those pesky side effects that come from taking this miracle cure. The food, medical and pharmaceutical industries have created life long customers. However shortened that life term may be. It’s one of the nefarious reasons I feel that these open borders have been allowed. More future customers for those three industries. Lots of good people out there trying to warn the public about this.

This right here is why I don’t support gvt banning it. This is a prime example of how propaganda has distorted reality and how the slippery slope starts. In 1 sentence, the conversation lumped high fructose, AR-15’s and SUV’s all in the same category and this person truly believes this to their core, which leads them to wanting all of them banned.
Gvt should stay out of this and it should be up to you so do your own homework. Gvt can’t do anything without injecting its own propaganda or be influenced by money or lobbyists.
