Why would a business owner publicly display their political leaning?

I first posted this on the Money Board. I’m wondering what the Poli Board thinks.

I get that for some people, their convictions are more important than money.

I’m coming from a belief that the bottom line of a for profit business is to earn money.

Why alienate a segment of the population and maybe a large segment?

What would i do? Keep my politics and my business separate.

This is not a troll. I don’t fully understand the business side of this.

Because they falsely believe the media narrative that 80% of the population are progs with far-left leanings. Nearest I can figure it.

If I were a business owner of a business that relied on zero politics for profit, then I would maintain is as apolitical. It's not very smart on either side to get involved. On the other hand, if reaching out to a specific audience was my profit (guns for instance), I'd be blasting my conservative leanings in just about every business statement I would make.

Absolutely this.

They live in a bubble, and the super loud minority sets the tone while the owner ignores actual voting numbers.

Dumbest shite I’ve ever seen.

Michael Jordan said it best. When asked if he cared if white kids were buying his shoes he replied white people have money too

That might be true, but even so, nobody cares about anyone else's convictions. It is not like the dude who runs the auto repair shop down the street is going to convince me to do anything politically.

Well there used to be a time when just having a leaning wouldn't have been a big deal although even then if I were in that position I probably wouldn't show it. But these days it practically has to be a closely guarded Secret.

Now I do differentiate between just knowing a particular business is run by somebody who I disagree with versus a business that is actively itself operating in the way I disagree with. For example if the owner happens to be some radical Pro trans person I don't really care. But if their business has an entire wing of their store dedicated to trans people then I will probably avoid it.

The problem for a lot of them is they have their marketing departments or management predominantly live in absolute blue bubbles. A lot of liberals think that conservatives live in bubbles also but we couldn't even dream of living in the same kind of bubble that exists in those blue areas you see on the map. The reason is simple. If you're conservative even if everybody you live next to is conservative a shite ton of stuff coming through your TV your computer screen and your phone is not. But if you're liberal in one of the blue areas you could genuinely come to start thinking that conservatives are practically the equivalent of UFOs

Assuming the owner hopes to appeal to a broad audience, it would be imprudent to publicly display political leanings.

Pretty much this.

But the inverse can also be true in that some owner’s don’t put the business interests first due to personal reasons.

I constantly blast my conservative values on my personal social media pages.

People have been silent for far too long as conservative values have been eroding which coincides with the country's erosion.

I bitch about taxes, unjust racial bullshite that is an epidemic, the government funding Covid, local Louisiana bullshite policy, illegal immigration, how retarded liberals are, etc.

The last 4 years sure did give conservatives alot of ammo, which is exactly what the traitorous Democrat party (and majority of the Republican party), to go along with the Globalist want.

And I do not give a frick if liberals do not want to spend money at any of my businesses. My main client base is conservative white females anyway, which coincidentally have money.

We talking national politics, or local? Local politics can have a VERY negative effect on your business. Staying out of it can have an end result in you being unable to continue doing business whether you want it to or not.

Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream went publicly left wing a long time ago. I don't know whether it hurt or helped sales.

It's fine if they want to... but don't cry when it backfires.

Penzeys Spices lost their mind after one election. I can't remember which one, but I think it was pre-Trump. Might have been the Bush/Gore election. Check this out:

About Republicans

quote:

What does any of this mean? Going forward we would still be glad to have you as customers, but we’re done pretending the Republican Party’s embrace of cruelty, racism, Covid lies, climate change denial, and threats to democracy are anything other than the risks they legitimately are. If you need us to pretend you are not creating the hurt you are creating in order for you to continue to be our customer, I’m sad to say you might be happier elsewhere.

If on the other hand you still want the best spices and don’t need us to respect what you now vote for to be our customer, Hooray! We are happy to have you here, but know that we will, on a regular basis, try to wake you up from this dream that has you believing there is anything conservative left at all to what the Republican Party has become. We can and will work without Republicans to solve the problems we face, but it sure would be nice to get back to a time where Republicans were equal defenders of equality, the environment, and democracy. We look forward to that day.

Needless to say, I stopped doing business with them.
