Well, found answers to my “how many minutes” questions.

LINK

Haji (135 min) and JF (45) combined for 180 min.
BA (105) and Reyna (57) combined for 162 min.
Yikes!

FC Dallas/Antalyaspor vibes over Leeds/Dortmund.

Double Yikes!

You’re comparing players in different positions though. I do wish Aaronson had started a game in the midfield. Gio was kind of flat in his appearances. Almost looked like he was physically holding back.

One of the things I didn't get an answer to in my striker thread is maybe berhalter is managing the team this way on purpose?

Not defending him, I'm trying to think what I would do (with what amounts to a limited soccer tactical knowledge). If you don't have a strength you have to offset it with one you do have. Perhaps his emphasis on the mid-field is because we don't have the skillset for a half-decent attack? It would make sense. I haven't seen a huge change in our line-up, and strategy from the concacaf gold cup to now.

Why spend time forcing a strength you don't have when you can refine the one you do have? Is/was that his mindset? Admittedly it made us a one trick pony, which the Dutch glaringly displayed.

He's a coach, so he should coach up areas we're deficient in, maybe he just didn't see a benefit?

Or he just a terrible coach.

Of course I am. Job is to get the best players on the field. You don’t think there’s an alternative lineup to do so?

Still trying to figure out that one myself. Most talented players playing oversees (golden generation), and we got as far as we have in the past.

Gio wasn't doing full sprints after like 10 minutes against the Netherlands.

He was clearly not 100%

Uh, we have at least two and possibly three cycles left with the core of this team. This is just the beginning.

Let's hope so. The core is there, but just needs to be fully recognized, cultivated, then maximized.

I don’t think pefok or Pepi were some silver bullet, but their omission is the biggest Berhalter sin of this World Cup for me (because I think Gio is actually hurt).

An underrated golden rule in life is dance with the one who brung you. Pepi was big for us in qualifying and deserved to be on the team over Haji for that alone.

Pefok deserved to be in the team because his resume is light years better than Jesus or Haji or Sargent.

Memphis Depay at 19: 32 starts for PSV Eindhoven, 12 goals, 7 asts

Pepi so far at 19: 8 starts at Groningen, 6 goals, 2 asts.

So hope springs eternal.

I mean, a lot more depends on how these players develop at the club level. They all need to play regularly, and we need several more regulars at the top level to really compete. We need around 100 players in the pool overall just to get to the standard of the big European nations. Until we have a deep enough player pool, it doesn't matter how good our first-team midfield may be, we would still be several players short of being able to actually compete.

Neither do I. Point being, if this was the tactic, why not bring in those who are better suited, especially when one makes a living off doing it.

Can you imagine Virgil, Frenkie, and Ake's face when they saw Ferreria

You think the Netherlands would have acted differently if we brought on Haji or Josh? You underestimate their pedigree.

Me? I think that was Greggers and his naive sunshine pumpers.

Hahaha no. That’s like comparing him to a coach that won the premier league but could never win the champions league.

Good bump.

Funny looking back 18 months ago and we’re back to the same old thing we saw even before then. “Just give him more time” is just disingenuous at this point…the same as it was 18 months ago.

Again, not greggs fault, he’s a lame duck under the USSF knowing what we know now.
