Anyone figure this out? Lifelong android user, kid wanted an iphone. Trying to put some boundaries on this. I set it up so they have to request approval for app downloads, but cannot receive/approve them on android device or PC installed iTunes/iCloud application.

the parent will have to have an iPhone, ipad or other apple device and the parent/kid apple accounts have to be in a family.

I managed to hold out until the 15 was out before i just broke down and went all in..
its not my favorite phone, but its nice to control my kids accounts and receive videos/pics that aren't simply a thumbnail

Sounds like me. I like my Pixel phones way better than my iPhone. But I am testing out an iPhone just to make things easier monitoring and tracking my kids and my parents.

It just works. Apple still not wanting to pet go of their control. Now they can sell you another device.

Just buy a used iPhone for cheap. Or a friend may give you an old one. Use it WiFi only and manage the Family account. It may be slow but you only need it for approvals.

How about being a parent and saying "No" ?

While I would agree with you, iOS parental capabilities are much more refined than Android. Android is significantly better for personal use, though. I think a reasonable compromise is start the kid on iPhone and then try to push them toward something else as they are getting old enough to be fully responsible for their own behaviors.
