I am a bit of a Luddite and have stuck with Samsungs more so for price. However have been disappointed with needing a new replacement every 12 to 18 months.

Should I pay the premium for apple? Is it worth it, I mostly just use it for calls, texts, photos, emails, some basic internet usage, etc. A few basic apps.

I mean, I'm still using an 11 pro max that I bought in 2019. They are very dependable phones. My wife's 12 pro max works perfectly too.

It's a matter of not worrying about the newest gizmos and just sticking with what works. As long as your device does what you need, don't upgrade.

with poor charging habits all phones will be ready for a new battery every 18 months or so.

You might want to figure out why you are having issues before committing to any change. I will say that is the nice thing about iPhones is that you can get an OEM battery replacement for between $70-100.

The pixel isn't much like an iPhone at all but battery life on Pixels are not great. Their standby battery drain is significantly more than a well tweaked iPhone, if that matters.

The prices are ridiculous but Apple really sets the hooks in with the Apple ecosystem. Everything just works.

I use Windows but on Mac you can pull up your texts to copy/paste links. Airpods connect right up out of the case. I can cast straight up to my Apple TV, control my TV with my phone, and sync iOS apps to my TV. I can text from my watch. The list goes on.

They spend a lot of money and time on this and I think it's their defining feature that sets them apart from any other manufacturer. Nobody is close to beating them in this area.

Pretty much this. I still use an old iPhone and it has the same weakness as every other phone(battery) which is replicable.
Things I don’t like about Apple:
1. Need to have multiple Apple devices in your name if you ever need to recover a password or anything. Hasn’t been a problem for me but it’s dumb.
2. Support is beyond awful. My historic sms/imessage attachments database got corrupted and they won’t do anything about it. They won’t even refund me the money I’ve spent to keep that data on their cloud even though it’s corrupt, useless and/or gone now. They will not support via email or messaging because they want you to give up and quit asking. Appointment only and each yields a “we’ll talk to engineering more.”
3. Apple devices are wasteful and cannot be repurposed. Despite having tons of usable and efficient computing power that I could save a lot of energy with, even older iphones are locked down so tight that they can’t be used for anything but their original intent. Maybe Samsung is the same. Not sure.

Exactly. The seamless and tight interaction between ALL your electronics is something people who don't use Apple stuff don't understand how well it's done.

Google Messages has done this for ages full text integration pics videos links messages all of it. Windows also has Phone Link built into the OS as well where you can access your entire phone from it including launching apps from the phone on your PC, full remote access it's insane, save pictures, make calls, text etc. Galaxy buds also connect in the case as soon as you flip it open and always have same for Pixel Buds.

When you get off of Apple you realize they are always years behind the competition before they bring over the same shite. Also why the more tech advanced Asian countries have very small iPhone market share like China at 15% and Korea at 25% those places are too advanced to wait years for the same tech and far far less blind brand allegiance unlike the US.

Also love being able to cast my Samsung phone to my Samsung TV and monitor seamlessly whether that's playing games or screen sharing etc. All just works fantastic and seamlessly whether it's on a PC, Samsung TV or monitor, Galaxy Buds, S Pen etc. Perfection.

I always feel a little bad for people that put themselves inside a little bubble and never get out of it. I'll only ever drive a Ford! That's how I picture Apple people that aren't female or over 50 years old. Will never try or experiment with anything else in a golden age of technology.

Apple does the same thing. if you want to pick a lesser evil of the two, at least google contributes to FOSS. Android is FOSS and millions if not billions of phones and devices out there are running Linux thanks to the work of the AOSP.

I have only dealt with the Pixel 4a and 7a directly. Great user experience but standby battery usage is pretty poor. Unless you disable everything you can and make using the phone a hassle, overnight drain is about 8-10% regardless of battery size. I can get that down too about 3-4% if I turn off practically everything.

The rest of my family has iPhones (13 & 15 mainly) and with just a few setting changes, overnight battery drain is about 1-2%

if you are a heavy user, this obviously doesnt matter because your battery usage is based on using the phone. I am much more of a light user where my phone sits on a desk doing nothing and I only use it to check texts and answer phone calls. I'd gladly prefer charging only once per week. Hopefully my next Pixel will get closer to that.

Google added the messages feature in 2018, 6 years after apple, and Apple works as soon as you login with your Apple ID. No phone linking.

Apple regularly innovates, co-develops, and funds R&D, waits until the technology is perfected, then implements.

Additionally, all of the Samsung ecosystem elements you mentioned are just Samsung’s attempt to compete.

Also, Apple is a premium priced product. It is no surprise it does not dominate in China.

Main issue is just the phone is slow and not very functional. I use it for work, and I take alot of photos and upload documents. Sending out emails, etc. I spend way to much time getting in and out of apps and features.
