I’ve got networking equipment scattered throughout my house and even temporarily put some stuff in the attic. To tidy things up and remove the equipment from the attic before the heat of the summer, I’m going to mount the equipment in a central location inside a closet.

What I haven’t decided yet is the best way to transition the cables (Ethernet and coax) from the attic to the closet. I’m thinking about through a pvc pipe that I stuff some foam in.

Any ideas on a good way to get the cables through the ceiling and keep a “seal” between the attic and downstairs? I could put some expanding foam but I want to be able to add cables later.

I've seen people use 4 inch PVC and it looked nice. I have some other sort of plastic access thing and it doesn't look as good.

PVC Chase is fine.

Leviton makes a structured media cabinet. Looks like an electrical panel, but for low voltage wiring. Would take a little more work.

I ran everything to a closet when I built my home. But I also added a 2" pvc that goes from inside the closet to the attic. I plugged it with some foam we cut from a 2" foam sheet. The foam plug has a cut in it that allows wires to come through if needed.

I ran a new power outlet and a installed a 12 port keystone plate to the ceiling of my closet. I have jacks for my antenna, POE cameras, HDMI, cable modem, and 2 ethernet runs.

What I did was run more cables than I needed into a patch panel in the attic right above the closet. In the closet wall there's 12 keystone ports on wall plates that all go up tot the patch panel. That way I won't need to run any new cables into the closet. This allowed me to run cables inside the wall and through 4 holes along the top plate for a more permanent installation.

You could use duct seal. This is what we use in the electrical industry to seal conduits going into switchgear. Sealing conduits is what it’s made for. They sell it almost everywhere. I know Lowes and Home Depot have it. This is a YouTube link that explains how to use it. Very simple

That’s exactly what I’m looking for! Thanks for the heads up.

I mounted something similar to this in my media closet, and also included wall plates for additional types of connections
