We’re driving from Baton Rouge to stay several days in BR. What are your ideas on places to stay and eat?

Been years since I have been there but what I remember it was beautiful and you are right outside of Boone,NC. There was a little downtown area that had live music at a pizza place. It was winter when we went also so not sure about hiking or anything like that. If you are staying in BR you should be able to walk to most of the places to eat.

Use this website. Most of these are on VRBO or AirBNB but have the additional fees associated with the Apps.

We've gone to the area many times over the years. A great location. So much to see in do right in the town or the surrounding area.
We've stayed at the Blowing Rock Inn before because it's literally a block from the main street. They have some other sister properties.
You didn't mention kids or not, but doesn't matter check out Tweetsie Railroad! "Old School" type of attraction. Been there for years. Kind of "cheesy" maybe, but fun. In the fall they do the "Ghost Train".
Glen Burney Falls Trail. "A challenging 2.7-mile hike that takes you to three stunning waterfalls—The Cascades, Glen Burney Falls, and Glen Marie Falls".
Drive over to nearby Boone and walk around Appalachian State! Take in a game in season.

This is where I'd stay simply for the convenience. And they just built a sidewalk on the Inn side of the street, so its much safer to walk into town now.

What we failed to mention is that depending upon the time of year, and day of the week (i.e. Saturday), just how bad parking can be in Blowing Rock.

Depends on what you want. Blowing Rock Inn is basically an old timey motel. You can stay at some really nice houses with great views and amenities minutes away from Blowing Rock. As others mentioned parking is a pain but they do have a public lot. I’ve been able to find a space when peak leaf season and App State homecoming was happening on the same weekend.

Go up to Beech Mountain, ride the ski lift, and have a beer on top of the mountain at 6,000 ft. On a clear day you can see Virginia and Tennessee. You can sit in the grass on the hill or play corn hole.
