Currently planning a family vacation to Breck this summer. Was originally looking at early June, but looks like the summer season doesn’t start until June 17 so a lot of the summer mountain activities will not be open yet. Any insight if it’d be better to wait and go mid July? Is the typical weather a big difference between the two? Crowds?

FWIW, will have 2 kids under 4yo so wouldn’t be doing more than a handful of those activities anyway. Planning more to hit some easy to moderate hiking trails.

I'd wait until the summer resort activities are available...more fun for the kids. The weather should be fantastic.

June will still be fun, and likely less crowded. It may be slightly more friendly on your wallet as well.

We go every July for 2-3 weeks. Been doing that for 15+ years. It gets VERY crowded especially around July 4th. Avoid that week at all costs.

In June the temps overnight and in the morning hours will most likely still be in the 40’s unless they get a warm spell. Day time temps will be nice though in 60’s. It will warm up probably 10 degrees on the high and low side in July. The nights are still really awesome with cool weather in the 50’s.

Do you have lodging booked yet? At this stage I’m assuming it is pretty thin on preferable options, or very pricey.

Don’t have it booked yet but found a condo with both available dates right now. Trying to decided and get it booked today or tomorrow before it’s gone.

Wife and I did this for our honeymoon in Breckinridge in July and was great. Weather was perfect and did not really notice many big crowds or anything like that.

We stayed in Breckinridge
Biked to frisco and ate/shopped around there
Drove to Buena Vista and went white water rafting.
Stayed a few days in Estes park and visited Rocky Mountain national park.
Coors brewery tour was great
Caught a Rockies game day before we left. Field is beautiful.

Did get cold in mid July and wife had to buy pants and jacket so be aware.

forgot to mention also, we stayed at Mountain Thunder Lodge. Very much enjoyed the stay!

I suggest going in July then if there isn’t a price difference (or it is minimal). You’ll have the ability to do anything you want outdoors related.

We will be there June 30 through July 17th

July 15th weekend. Pop over to Keystone for a few hours of wine and jazz fest.

Looks like that’s the same day as Breck Summer Brew Festival, which we love going to each year. It’s a craft beer lovers paradise

Ya, we've been to both many times. We'll be at wine and jazz fest this year. Both are great events and family friendly, but I might say that wine and jazz is a little more family friendly than Breck beer fest. A little more elbow room for strollers at Keystone's village as well.

ETA: if wine isn't your thing, pop into Rockin R Grocery & Liquor right there in the village. Some of us were drinking beers from there all day out in the village at the festival. I enjoy some wine, but I'm not a fan of only being able to drink wine. I'm good on wine after just a glass or two.

I was there on July 4th last year and we needed the patio heaters on outside, definitely shouldn't be too hot

Book a place with A/C. There are not many. You wont need it at night, but if it gets into the 80's, you will be happy you can kick it on during afternoon.

Thanks for the insight! Just booked for July 15 through the following week. Probably get in to late to enjoy the brew festival, but will for sure check out the Wine & Jazz Fest on the Sunday. Kinda bummed we can’t make the weekend of the Bacon & Bourbon Fest, sounds like a cool one to check out.

You have any can’t miss restaurants on your list?

Hearthstone is my #1 can’t miss restaurant in the town. It’s amazing. I typically get the blackberry elk. They’ll usually have specials with Colorado bison and lamb chops. It’s pricey, so if it is too expensive consider going for happy hour and having drinks and appetizers. Sit outside too on their porch if you go for HH.
Hearthstone website

Modis is another we always have on our list. It’s on Main Street. Cocktails are out of this world. It’s also on the pricier side.

Make sure you visit the Breckenridge Distillery. They have very very good food too.

If you like beer go to Broken Compass. It is kid friendly. No food though. Their main location is just north of town (maybe 4 minutes drive from center of Main St). They have a small satellite location on Main St but it doesn’t have the same vibe / feel.

Other good dining options - Motherloaded Tavern (American food), The Canteen, and Briar Rose Chophouse (steaks). There are a couple solid pizza joints, our favorite is Giampietro’s.

For breakfast, baked goods, and coffee - Clint’s is a must (it is on Main St). Another great breakfast / coffee option is The Crown.

Modis went down this winter. Look at Mimo Fancy Tapas and Lafrancais Bistro both on South Main. Both are excellent. No reservations at Mimo.

Hearthstone is consistently very, very good. For another high end option, Rootstalk may be the best in the county. Great options at its Happy Hour, too.

Legit bummer

I was looking forward to popping in there for a few cocktails in a couple months.

Rootstalk is on my short list. I’ll definitely make it there this trip.
