I want my wife and I to go somewhere within an 8 or 9 hour drive from Baton Rouge for the big 40. We enjoy the beach and mountains and I'd like for it to be a relaxing, quiet trip but also would like some opportunity for adventure so I'm open to other places but we're running into a mental block in trying to figure out where to go.

Any suggestions?

Did Nashville for wife’s 40th and we enjoyed it. Did the hall of fame, ryman, museum and a couple song writers shows durning the day and bars in evening/night.

I would have said Costa Rica in years past, it's barely over 2h from Houston.
However, the security situation has gone from safe to less so (I don't pay enough attention to know if it's limited to the South of the country.)

There's also Roatan, Honduras (it's an island off the coast and insulated from mainland violence), a direct flight from Houston. You can SCUBA or ocean kayak or ... do nothing.

Chattanooga offers rafting on the Ocoee, ATV'ing in the mountains in Ga, cool walkable downtown area, SUP on the Tennessee River, Aquarium, live music, minor league baseball, breweries, hiking, Lookout Mountain, a theater for Broadway Productions, Ruby Falls, Chattanooga Distillery and what I think is a really nice collection of dining options all within a short walk or bike ride away. When we go we usually just drive up with our own bikes but you can also rent them there either by the day or the week. We prefer staying on the northshore area (VRBO / AirBNB).

That's cool. It's similar to the Postcard cabins in Meadville, MS that we've been to a couple times, although it's much bigger than those. I like how you have to take a UTV to the cabin after parking but my wife would freak out that we're too secluded .

I doubt my wife would sleep a wink…did you hear that? Go check and see if the doors are locked again.

Any reason air travel is out? It’s your 40th. It’s all down hill from there. Go big.

Savannah/Hilton Head or Charleston maybe?

Wander the Texas Hill Country. Start in San Antonio go up to Fredericksburg and back to Austin and everywhere inbetween.

Drive to Galveston and hop on a cruise ship. (More options than NOLA)

Well we're already planning on going to Omaha if LSU makes it to the CWS, we have this birthday trip (wherever it ends up being), and we're going to Boston or Arizona in the fall. Lots of money will be spent on trips this year so I'd prefer not to fly for this one.

Do we share a wife or something?

if air travel is an option then The Broadmoor in colorado springs. can hang out at the hotel and relax all you want, or there are plenty of outdoor activities including garden of the gods, pikes peak, etc.

If so, The Pearl in Rosemary is where she wants to take you for your 40th.

Depending on the time of year, I would probably just go relax at the beach at 30A...

Central/North Arkansas maybe. I like the lakes in the Hot Springs area but also Heber Springs with Greer’s Ferry Lake and Little Red River is my favorite.

Didn’t think people actually went to those cabins in Meadville. There’s literally nothing to do there.

That's the point

We've been there twice. It's ok. They're extremely quiet and there's a nice walking trail that goes to the river, though I don't recall which river it is, but it's nice. We bring our own firewood and cook over an open flame, which gets Mrs. Gumbo all hot and bothered like I'm some sexy caveman or something but it works and always makes for a good adult weekend.

I know I'm late to this thread, but did anyone suggest the All Star Inn in Bunkie yet?

Feast out at Rocky's Tails & Shells for fancy dining and then shag out at the Inn.

Welcome to 40!
