Had it set for May 26. Is this going to line up with the appearance of the new pope? The only way I won’t feel screwed is if it does. Oh well, that’s life.

It's not. The Pope has to be buried between the 4th and 6th day after dying, plus they have the 9 days of morning that began yesterday. Then they will start the conclave around the 15th day after death.

But if you are there already, the Pope will be lying is state in St. Peters Basicilla probably starting on Wednesday and they let people in to pay their respects. That might be an interesting alternative for you. Just know that the lines can get really long - like literally miles long - and the wait can be all day.

It could. Depending on when new pope is elected. If you happened to be there when the white smoke flies and the bells ring, you should rush to St. Peter’s as fast as you can.

You might have to join the College of Cardinals.

I'm a terrible Catholic and I'm not the best mathematician, but he said May 26th which is over 30 days away. So I'm assuming this is just standard practice to cancel ahead of time because no one really knows what will be going on the next 30-90 days?

Can you tell me what next week's lotto #s are too?

OP, yes, the conclave will begin prior to the 26th, but it very well could be ongoing. Keep checking you very well could be able to re-book or hear the crowds shouting habemus papam!

You are correct. I read it as April 26th for some reason.

“The conclave is expected to begin sometime between 6 and 12 May 2025, which is between 15 and 20 days after Francis's death.”

I assume they have to shut down everything scheduled until conclave is over and new Pope announced and all the ceremonies.

No one knows how long conclave could last. Out of curiosity, I looked up longest in 20th century was 5 days. Back in 1700s was a 6 month process. Longest ever was over 2 years back in 1200s.

Edit:
That’s still over a month away. Everything could be concluded and potentially reopened by then. Just stay on top of it and maybe you can rebook it later before that date.

We've got a tour scheduled for May 8th.

As of right now we are not cancelled, but Im worried about it.

May miss the sistine chapel or St. Peters Basilica or both depending on timing according to our guide.

Cool time to be there but is gonna suck to not get to see everyhting.

Our trip to Rome is set for May 20-25 and then a Med cruise. Probably will have a new pope by then but Rome will still be a zoo.

Vatican tour for the 21st has not been cancelled … yet.

With the Jubilee also being celebrated, this could turn into a Mardi Gras thing.

So much for a quiet journey to Roma.
