Will be there a few days next week. Never been. Just looking it appears a downtown hotel would be the best option? Bar and restaurant recs appreciated. Tia

If you stay downtown- Mama Js Cafe, Perlys restaurant at The Jefferson Secret Sandwich Society.
Plenty of places to eat in Carytown and Scott's Addition.
And an absolute stop is Proper Pie.

Went there last year for a speaking engagement and really enjoyed Carytown.

Haven't been to RIC in over 15 years, but my old job's territory included VA.
If you like cuban, check out Kuba Kuba... it's a dump, but great food.
Arguably the best cuban food between NY and FL.

ZZQ has genuinely great Texas barbecue.
If you see a ham biscuit on a breakfast menu, order one. They’re great.
Like everywhere now, there are a lot of great breweries too.

Secret sandwich society snd mekong are good as mentioned .
Other places I used to like.
Tobacco company
Boathouse
Bookbinders for something more upscale
Rappahannock
Fat dragon
Sabai
Tarrants Cafe
There's probably several I'm forgetting.
Bars:
Jefferson hotel if you're feeling fancy.
Richmond has a TON of breweries most are outdoor though so not sure what the weather is like, but most popular would be hardywood.
Southern railway taphouse if your trying to go clubbing.
There's a couple of rooftop bars as well.
It's been about 5 years since I lived in the area. Richmond has a pretty decent food scene.

A lot of history there. If you get a chance visit the State Capital and the Lawn at UVA on the way in if you’re not flying.

The monuments in Richmond were are all destroyed. From a historical perspective, there not much worth stopping to see.
The same happened in Charlottesville, but they even destroyed both of the Lewis and Clark statues.

I work at Midtown when I have to go into the office a couple times a week.
For bars in general in the Scotts Addition (Midtown) area, check these out:
- Vale Brewery - great beer, nice
- Triple Crossing Brewery - get the Falcon Smash
- The Park - huge entertainment / food place with multiple bars
My hangouts have music most days:
- Mainline Brewery - have some good horns blowing tomorrow night for their Fat Tuesday thang (hell I might go)
- The Camel - a dive bar near VCU that has music every day of the week
Mainline:

Appreciate the recs. Stayed at the downtown Marriot. Flight got in late Monday and just ate at Fall Line, a restaurant in the hotel. It's pretty good. Had lunch yesterday at Secret Sandwich society. Great place. Hit a few breweries yesterday evening: Capital Ale House, Ardent, Veil Brewery. Ended up at The Camel. Great spot to pass some time. Had an entertaining band playing and a fine Cheeseburger. Richmond is alright. Downtown is pretty clean, well laid out and has plenty to. Touche Richmond
