Stayed a year or two ago. Its fine. Better than a hampton/holiday inn but not all that nice. Probably your best option in Alexandria though.

It's kind of a shell of what it was in the mid 90s. Bob Dean pretty much raped the Bentley Hotel when he owned it in the late 90s (before he was off killing people in nursing homes). He removed and sold off almost all of the great antiques and furnishings that had been there since it's opening.

The "new" owner (2012) has tried to bring it back some, but it's a losing battle now due to it's location.

That's a shame.

I don't understand the location comment. It's not far from 49. It's Alexandria. Where would it need to be close too? I am up here for work and I am about 20 to 40 minutes away from the accounts I need to call on so it seems to be centrally located fo my needs. When I go out to eat it's no more than a 15 minute drive.

Yes, for meetings. Was fine, about same as mid-level spots and doubt you find anything better in Alex.

I did like the basement bar, and there are a few places downtown to walk to dinner if you want. Area didn't feel sketchy to me, just largely empty/deserted in the evenings.

The Hotel really shows it's age but it an interesting place to wander around and explore. The room is nice and I was kind of surprised at how clean it was. It's not hard to imagine what the place would have been like in it's prime.

I will add it does have spooky haunted feel.

Yeah, not sketchy at all. I will check out The Mirror Longe one night this week.

The Bentley used to be a prime hotel in a good part of the city. People would literally come from around different places to stay there/ It's just not a desirable part of Alexandria anymore. During the day there will be people around, but at night there isn't really anything around there.

Some people will complain about crime in the area, but honestly you really won't be walking anywhere near there to have to worry about it (like lower 3rd). And just like crime in Baton Rouge, its pretty much all criminal on criminal crime (other than random car break ins). As long as you aren't out there looking for drugs you will be good.

But if you are just staying for work then it's fine. The Mirror Room is actually good for drinks if you are by yourself and it's right there in the hotel.

Very historic. I believe Patton stayed there during the Louisiana Maneuvers.

It's a shame because it's a nice little Downtown area. Alexandria needs to look at what Covington, Ponchatoula, and Hammond have done. Hammond especially. Hammond's Downtown area was a dilapidated eyesore in the 90's but they have done a great job of revitalizing it.

ETA: I got coffee this morning at the Tamp and Grind and they were all excited about being featured in Southern Living.

Yea if you’re just gonna be there to sleep and shower it’s not bad. I was at that red river bank nearby the other day.

The "basement" area was used as i secret location for Senior Officers and NCOs to "plan" attacks during the Louisiana Maneuvers.

They have a large area of memorabilia from the Louisiana maneuvers as well and its setup in museum style.

Pretty cool hotel.

There used to be an Irish Pub across the street that was badass.

Stayed there twice.

First when I interviewed for residency. Second when I graduated from residency. Nice place. The bar downstairs is nice too.
