re: Imagine if a good player in the 80s/90s get teleported into todays time and starts playing

I would have enjoyed seeing a manager go to the mound to pull Nolan Ryan after only 80 pitches with a perfect game on the line and six outs remaining. ...

Three timeless truths:
Recognize that everyone is not like you. Engage through empathy.
Never surprise an associate in an annual review. Coach year round.
Hire slow. Fire fast....
re: Baseball records/feats that may never be topped

Cy Young’s 749 complete games. 749! Last year’s MLB leader had 3.
If that player replicates that feat they will break the record in about 250 years. In comparison to acknowledge the absurdity of that record, last year’s MLB wins leader would break Cy Young’s win record in about 25 years....
re: LSU coach Mulkey wearing the most gosh-awful looking outfit in game vs. UCLA

I’ve seen her wear more tacky stuff than that outfit. I once saw her wear four huge, gaudy national championship rings. ...

SS will be at risk when the oldest generation is no longer a significant voting demographic. Decisions on Capitol Hill are based more on politics than economics. ...
re: How many of you get a big tax refund check?
Posted by BThibodeaux on 3/28/24 at 11:16 am
Financial literacy for young people extends way beyond taxes. Because of the decline of defined benefit plans, spiraling health care costs and extended life spans, there could be major issues in the future. Young people need to defer gratification of fancy cars and large houses and save for their ...
re: How many of you get a big tax refund check?

Some get large tax refunds because they are required to pay quarterly estimated taxes based on the previous year’s tax liability. For those over $150,000 in income, you need to withhold 110% of the previous tax bill. For some retirees, a large part of their income is based on investments, specific...
re: Steps for paying uncle sam in advance of tax return filing

Directly from the IRS:
When to pay estimated taxes
For estimated tax purposes, a year has four payment periods. Taxpayers must make a payment each quarter. For most people, the due date for the first quarterly payment is April 15. The next payments are due June 15 and Sept. 15, with the last q...

I believe it’s 110% of last year’s tax liability if your adjusted gross income is projected to be $150,000 or more. I think you are required to pay 25% of that number quarterly. There may be special rules for those on commissions or incentive plans, but I’m not sure. Contact a CPA to be safe and ...
re: Non-Profit (tax exempt) advice
Posted by BThibodeaux on 3/11/24 at 7:56 am
The most successful non-profit organizations have great alignment between their missions and passionate, committed donors. Those that don’t will struggle to secure enough resources to cover their overhead and infrastructure. Overhead is the most challenging dollars to generate but critical to sust...

I heard the same story about 12 originally going to be designated as 10. As the story goes, politics were involved with NOLA leaders influenced the decision so interstate traffic had to travel through town…Not shocking....
re: Are umbrella insurance policies even necessary for most people?

Conduct a bit of research to see if you live in one of the most litigious states in the country. Spoiler alert-Louisiana is second to Florida. You can always drive on the Interstate and evaluate the volume of personal injury attorney billboards. The answer may be more obvious than you realize....
re: Best moment in LSU sports history?

An underrated moment is the Marcus Spears pick six in the 2003 national championship. It was the most important play in the most important game in more than 40 years. Certainly not as dramatic as the Morris walk off but a tremendous moment for those of us that believed we would never see another f...
re: Inherited IRA Question
Posted by BThibodeaux on 2/1/24 at 3:49 pm
A financial advisor could provide specific requirements and recommendations, but be aware that there was also a SECURE 2.0 passed in December, 2022. It was quite vague in their required annual RMD’s for inherited IRA’s, but that was clarified in July, 2023. I suggest you research that, just to help...

I was in a senior leadership role for a very large national not for profit and we established a wholly owned subsidiary to create more focus and independence on unique part of the business that needed to act as more of a start-up. We did not do it because of risk, but we decided it was a more thoug...
