Speaking of this increase in crime, and exluding responses like, “ don’t even go to the French quarter: when visiting the French quarter, what would you mark as your absolute no go cross street in every direction?

Make sure your life insurance is up to date if you plan to pass Bonnabel on I-10E.

There aren’t clear zones like there used to be, which is why so many visitors and tourists are frustrated.

Keeping your head on a swivel isn’t all that fun but it’s necessary now.

North-Dauphine St
East - St Ann
West - Canal
South - Decatur which you’re at the river anyway.
Stay within this box and you’ll likely only get mugged but still possibility of being murdered.

I hope you enjoy the smell of the wonderful mix of piss, shite, and puke. Try not to step in any when dodging bullets.

Has this really changed much since the 80s?

Sounds to me like the key is staying inside. Just walk from bar to bar. Even if you don’t like the place.

The days of milling around with a “Big arse Beer” are gone. That beer is probably a green light for thugs. They know you’ve had a couple and aren’t paying attention.

I’m still not going. Which is sad because I loved NOLA and even being a dumb tourist in the Quarter. But if I did go this would be the plan. Kind of line Vegas in the summertime. Except you are avoiding crime and not heat and sandstorms.

Even in a paid parking lot your vehicle will likely get broken into or stolen.

Do not walk in to the Quarter on Bourbon from Canal. Go by way of Royal or Decater.

Nothing but trouble on that first block on Bourbon.

Not really. We just have social media and message boards to constantly tell us about it.

Be sure to leave a lot of guns in your truck. They - and you - will be safe. Trust me.

It still amazes me that we cannot keep Bourbon Street from Canal to St Ann safe. It is the lynchpin of our city but we can’t do it.

When I go I park at the westin garage. I imagine its safer than an outdoor lot.

But still not 100% thug proof

That's exactly what I think.

You also have NextDoor and Uptown Messenger freaking everyone out.

I will never forget the rumor of a huge, tattooed guy rolling around on a Harley with a mchine gun terrorizing residents.

It was an 11-year old on a ramshackle bike with a duct-taped BB gun.
