I think jay was saying tag him while he was still somewhat close but he waited to do it when the guy was almost in the dugout lol. In the moment it’s actually heads up that jay even saw that

Collins was out of position and that second run should not have happened. Plenty of mistakes to go around. Plenty of highlight plays by Nichols as well. Mid week games are a crap shoot. It's 99% of the opponents super bowl. Those kids will be showing those catches to their grand kids and telling the story of taking down the mighty tigers in their historic year 50 years from now.

Yet the play wasn't dead, the ump had not made a call, and Jay realistically shouldn't have gotten that close to the play. That was some shite there, totally on the players for not recognizing what was going on.

Milazzo misplay when they held the runner at 3B AND Collins not backing up home allowed the winning run.

We are not well coached.

Although I will digress this was a poor coaching move I would like to bookmark this is an alltime poor take

all he had to do was tell his pitcher to stand on home plate with the ball. Wait for runner who was off 3rd to go back(plate umpire cant call timeout until he is on the bag), then call time out and ask umpire for out or safe. I think the plate umpire was waiting for the kid to put "1" foot into the dugout to make a his call of "out".

We suck and should just forfeit the rest of the season…

Am I doing this right?

We are just not a smart team. Does anyone teach situational awareness?

Teaching all the fundamentals and don't know the rules of the game.
The fiasco at home plate reminds me of John Williams in Basketball. The number 1 recruit in the USA didn't know the clock doesn't start until a player touches the ball.

Merrifield wasn’t getting back to 2nd unless he stayed close to the bag
There was no one there to cover the bag, he easily gets back if he does what he is supposed to.

Nichols played almost flawlessly. Whatever they did for preparation worked.

Regardless of outcome it was a fun game to watch.

It's late in the season. It should be sound fundamentals.

You can also say it’s late in the season and we haven’t seen the crazy mistakes that were made last night all year so you can chalk it up to not being totally focused for a midweek game with two of your best hitters out.

He wasn't in proper position. He was supposed to be backing up the catcher

This team has great talent, not sure brains are strong though. I see a lot of emotional mis-ques that will haunt them against smarter teams and more disciplined teams in the post season.

This may not be popular but it looks to me like we are a bit over coached at times. Jay believes his involvement and interaction is needed and his record says it works for the most part. However one byproduct of involved coaching is players doing exactly as told and sometimes hesitation while looking for further instruction.

We’ve played just about as good of teams as we will face all year and it has not haunted us. We are the only team that has yet to lose a series. It’s not like we aren’t plenty battle tested.

Runners should have checked ball, with runner on 3rd, ready to tag

this. the amazing catch was made with his back turned to home while falling flat. tag from third and tie game assuming merrifield doesn't ut his head down and start charging away like a wild bull.
