re: Lafayette Christian Academy. What’s the real story on this new football powerhouse?

They’re cheating and recruiting
They recruit just like any other high school. The church pastor made it clear years ago in many conversations that were public that he wanted the school to have championship programs. They bussed in kids on their basketball teams when Byron Starks was there that had no business playing as quick as they did. They won titles in 1A with 5A rosters. Football is the same way. Not knocking Faulk and whoever else has been the coach, you can walk in and win titles in football without good coaching. As a school, they have for the better part started getting kids in the program at the middle school level. So the xferring in is probably not has heavy as it was in the beginning.

I saw that, is that the one right by Youngsville Sports complex?

Clean, I drove by that new stadium the other day, it went up quick!
How do you think they will be? I think they still have a couple years before they are varsity, but jumping into 4A with Southside right down the road doing well in a competitive 5A district. It just seems like both schools will need good schemes and to build their programs having to share a limited talent pool. Some really good talent, but IDK if it's enough for both to excel on talent alone.

I checked out Acadiana Renaissance Charter yesterday. Brand new stadium.
Man, that school seemed to be built overnight. It's crazy that Southside was once the crown jewel of the parish as far as schools go, but they can't get their own football stadium built, but a charter school pops up with something super nice overnight.
I do of course realize they aren't playing by the same rules as far as funding.

I think he's talking about the one on the northside where Acadian Hills use to be.
But he could be talking about the one in youngsville. That one is going up quick too.

Take this with a grain of salt if you wish, but I went to Crowley High with Nick Dugas who was our QB from 96-98. Rumor was that ND tried swaying him to go there. Some people asked him about it and all he said was that they went talk to his mom but they decided to go to Crowley.
Another guy I played baseball with, Coby Hebert said ND would have waived tuition for him and his sister if he went there. He played baseball, football and basketball. He ended up at Iota. Again, I'm not sure if any of this is even true. Just what I remember hearing.
On an unrelated note, ND needs to use some of that money they bring in, or get funding from an alumni like Tommy Casanova to build their own goddamn football stadium and stop using Gardner Memorial.

I figured he was talking about the one in Youngsville. I'm pretty sure the other one is Lafayette Renaissance Charter and they have built their stadium last summer.
For the one in Youngsville I saw they won a T&F state championship. Which is crazy considering last I saw they were using the parking lot of the school and YSC for all their practices.

ARCA is the charter in Youngsville.

If it’s anything like Baton Rouge. People leave their own local school to go to a private school and the landscape od the sport suffers so one school can improve at the expense of their other students.
I wish Louisiana cheered for education instead of football. I love the sport but could not care less who dominates. It should be local schools playing each other as intended. Instead they all have to play without their best player.

It needs to be said. How is a team in a 50/50 city of 10,000 people ALL WHITE? That's how you know he doesn't recruit.

But the public schools don’t own the kids

Last year's head coach for LCA, Hunter Landry, is now LRCA's head coach and Trev Faulk is the Athletic Director. I can probably put money that they're going to take a lot of current and future LCA kids.

Are schools like ARCA and LRCA considered select or non?

But the public schools don’t own the kids
as our famous poster from the parish pointed out, the publics don't own the kid's talents
1) in many cases the publics are offering shitty education and has distractions throughout the classrooms and even though they pay more, which in turn means better teachers usually, they offer an inferior product in many cases. This is across the state in all the cities and even smaller towns like Crowley
2) in many cases the public schools have worse coaches
3) many times the publics have inferior facilities despite getting way more per student than what it costs to go private
the public schools want to hold kids hostage to districts instead of allowing open enrollment and school choice because that would mean they have to compete or lose students. it's sad.
as far as recruiting and offering free tuition.....you mean make the playing field level with the publics?
if both schools are free...parents are going to choose the better education, facilities, and programs. maybe, just maybe, the public schools should try and compete and offer something more than the private schools.

There is a third one in Abbeville. All owned by the same entity.

If they recruit, they’re doing a terrible job because none of their players go on to play college ball.
They sure seem to win a lot of football games. In an environment where recruiting kids to your school is now the standard, it feels a little unrealistic to say that this one school has played for the title 10x in 25 years without needing to pull better players (recruiting)
I guess anything is possible but your assertion doesn't pass the eye test.
