You better make sure the future Mrs is on board. Some women might have an issue not having a natural diamond, others would prefer having a larger diamond even if lab grown. If you go natural, learn the 4C’s. A smaller round diamond with an Ideal cut will gets tons of compliments (vs a poorly cut larger diamond) and your fiancé will love that.

The other thing to keep in mind, some vendors have pretty good trade up policies. Buy something smaller now, upgrade to a larger stone in the future, getting full credit for the original stone (read the fine print though).

So the guy that wants to sell you a diamond says you’ll get good money when he buys it back? LOL. You’ll general get about 25% of what you paid.

Go with a smaller diamond with better clarity and then you lie to your Girl that it’s slightly bigger than it is. Dont go too crazy, but like 3/4 carrot to one carrot l, etc…

Clarity matters more than size. And then get the setting where it sits up a little bit higher, that’ll add to the “size” as well.

Go for .92 over a full carat. Take your savings to get better cut and clarity.

Color is a preference.

Took out a loan to pay for mine (still paying). Wish I would’ve saved more cash (if possible). Felt like I got a solid deal. She’s happy with it and I was. Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference in the grades of diamonds entirely. The cheaper option looked better than the other diamonds to her mom and me.

Diamonds don't hold their value.

You'll pay $5K and won't be able to get $600 when you go to sell it after she leaves you

Take her with you when you shop for the ring. You will learn if she is in it for the reason that you hope.

I bought the diamond by itself and then had it set in a ring. Jared Allen or something like that and you can shop all the stones you want. Learn about the 4 C’s and find out what you want sitting on top of your fiancée’s finger. Bring the stone to a good jeweler and they can build a ring to the stone. I felt like I saved a good bit this way

Find out if she prefers size or quality (color, clarity).

Buy her whichever she wants.
If she wants both, evaluate your life choices (job. Budget. Her)

I've been married almost 22 years and just did the upgrade.
You don't have to try outdo the neighbors/parents when you first get married.
