Not exactly. I don't mind heights where I'm protected -- glass-wall elevator, observation point with a guardrail, hell even rappelling -- things like that don't bother me. But put me where I might fall off and it's a hard pass.

Sure. But I have been there, though roped, but I could stand there for an hour no problem, hell if I could sit I would stay all day for $500k per hour. The problem is you can't stand up straight backed and it would get pretty tiring after an hour if you weren't comfortable moving around. It is ~1600ft up the regular Northwest Face route on Half Dome in Yo Valley and gives a great view of the entirety of Yosemite Valley. Legendary climb. The route was fairly easy when I did it 5.9 A1 with one night on the wall but there was a flake that exfoliated a few years years ago that requires a higher level aid or a serious free pitch and probably adds 2 hours to the climb if you are aiding.
Look at me! Look at me!

... I've been on that "Thank You God Ledge" for many, many years now because of happenings going on around us in real time; loving EVERY minute and never anticipating any kind of reward ...
Just Doing What I Am Supposed To Do ...
Thank You God ...

Someone starts a thread about some remote place, and someone on this board who has ACTUALLY been there posts a comment about it, and you decide to call them out as boasting? The irony here is that most people reading this thread sees your post as a "look at me!" post, not his.
First, the ever-accurate up vs down vote count seems to be at odds with your assertion.
Second, while I didn’t expand on my comment, one could reasonably infer that I was pointing out the overly technical description used in Obtuse1’s story. It comes across as “I’m a pompous know-it-all” and not relatable.
He could have told the story using layman’s terms, thus increasing the relatability of the information to the question posed by the OP. The question posed was obviously meant to be “would you, average / ordinary / inexperienced OT poster, stand on this hard-to-reach and dangerous ledge for an hour if offered $1 million?”
Perhaps the reply Obtuse gave would be more appropriate on the Outdoor board?

Its isn't all that difficult to understand.
The route was easier when Obtuse did that climb, but granite flaked off of the wall at some point making it harder, and it now requires more help and skill.

Yep, that means a lot to people.

Serious free pitch, eh?

If he had used those words I would have flown right on by his post. But he didn’t. And I can only assume it was because he wanted this attention I’m giving him. I would say the same to a doctor providing overly technical terms rather than just using layman’s terms (emesis = vomiting, febrile = has fever).

well, whatever his intentions may have been, maybe you googled the terminology and learned something new. That's always a good thing.

I can look over a railing but these intrusive thoughts keep popping into my head about jumping or falling off it.
I was on this bridge looking down at the Rio Grande gorge in New Mexico and all I could think about was falling off of it.

The thought of falling from there does not scare me.
The landing does, however.

Here’s one. Would you hang from a bridge in a wrecked 18 wheeler for 40 minutes for a million dollars? (I hope she gets a huge amount of money.)
I’d have died of fright, I’m afraid.

This is a perfect gig lol. Earlier today a friend and I dorked out asking if we'd leave our family for a year for a million a month, but they couldn't know what happened in that year. You saw their torment but they lived it and you couldnt intervene. So... 'falling off' and hiding for 12 months, could ya?
Absolutely sign me up. Most my family is dead and the ones left don’t give a shite about me anyway and I care even less about them as a result.

Without protection?

I couldn't. Anxiety would make me think I'd collapse or fall which would inevitably make me collapse or fall. Like standing here is so hard.
