There's pretty solid science out there debunking ice baths, but if it makes you feel great and find it helpful then go for it

I'm not advocating for cold baths, I've only done a cold plunge in Colorado at a natural spring and it was just for the experience. I hate cold water, give me the hottest shower/bath possible.

But pretty much every pro sports team has cold plunges and ice baths on hand for their athletes. There might be some articles out there debunking it, but there's also some solid science backing it too. Teams don't just provide their hundreds of million dollar athletes do treatments without full research.

I think my statement was not specific enough, and you're right. My intention was to say that there's no proven mental or long term health benefits as some people try to claim. However, ice baths can reduce acute inflammation, which can be great pain relief for in-season athletes, who put their body through hell. For that same reason, those looking to build muscle should avoid doing it regularly because it can potentially stymy muscle growth, which relies upon some inflammation.

As always, references at the bottom of the article from Layne and his crew.
