Knowing people who know Gary well, he does not like to owe a bank money. The only loans are typically internal from the main corp to the corp that would operate the vessel. They even own the majority of the shipyards and ancillary companies involved with building and dressing the ships. 2B is absolutely laughable. I don't imagine they care, but the scale and magnitude of their empire in the Gulf is absolutely incredible, and pre-moratorium their revenue flow would have been enviable for a lot of countries.

This dude here. You remember back in the 90's when he anounced his retirement from basketball because he had HIV, and everyone was sad because they thought he was a dead man walking? I member. Turned out to be the best thing he ever did I guess. Good for Magic.

Went the route of the owner in Major League. Marry a billionaire and take over his sports franchise when he dies.

I didn't see Klaus Schwab on the list. You would think the biggest evil doers according to the Poli Board would be higher on the list since they control the world. Gayle Benson has almost as much influence as Soros

On the list it appears Elon Musk is only a little richer than Jeff Bezos. But he’s a billion dollars richer.

Yes, they own all their assets outright and 2B is definitely low.

That would be Tidewater or Hornbeck, post bankruptcy.

Gary self finances most Capex the Chouest company expends. As a private company, he's not beholden to shareholder pressure and financial engineering.

Agreed, he owns over 200 ships. $2,000,000,000/200 = $10,000,000 average per boat. His boats alone are way more valuable than that. Then he owns C-Port, multiple shipyards and a lot of smaller companies. He owns a company that builds display refridgerators for all of the new Rouses and other grocery stores, Engine Company's, Marine Electronic companies. I'd say his net worth is closer to 5 or 6 billion.

Chouest owns half of Island Offshore, a Norwegian vessel company. Great guys to work with. Another 20 high end boats.

It’s very easy for a researcher to value a couple hundred fast food stores based on industry metrics especially when the business has used some institutional money and released some info publicly. Much harder with shipyards, supply boats, ports, etc. damn near impossible when it’s holes in the ground that pump oil.

Pennington made a 9 figure donation to LSU in the early 80’s, Taylor settled with the feds handing over $400+mil for the oil spill at their rig that was destroyed in 2004. The feds claim that platform is leaking $10mil plus worth of oil in the ocean every year.

The wealth that has accumulated in many families due to oil and gas is many magnitudes higher than most people realize because it’s not easy for outsiders to find the info, nor is it easy to estimate cash flows based on the info they do find.
