If you're willing to pay at or near the top of the pay range for similar positions, sure. Raising the minimum wage just raised that top of range pay from 18-20 to 25-27. And now what is a manager making? Margins in the food industry usually aren't great.... that said, I think some fast food chains do pretty well.

I believe a lot of chains operate in volume more so than margin.

Yeah, so it hits them too because higher prices = fewer sales. The question is how hard?

I didn’t explain my point very well. While some chains do well, it’s because of volume, not margins. Meaning small increases in costs can significantly impact overall profit and profitably in a more significantly negative way than someone operating at much higher margins.

No. Youre still getting the worst possible workers, just at a highly inflated price.

That’s like being proud of yourself for having more students pass their tests because you lowered the score required to pass or boasting about crime decreasing because you decriminalized shop lifting.

Same labor pool. All they did was lift the floor

But the customer is getting the same worker at a cheaper cost.

Due to low earnings, fast-food workers' families also receive an annual average of $1.04 billion in food stamp benefits and $1.91 billion in Earned Income Tax Credit payments

So whereas before McDonald's was paying them $16 (66.6%) and the taxpayer was paying them $8 (33.3%), now McDonald's is paying them $20 (83%) and the taxpayer $4 (17%)

Only a socialist would be against that

Only a socialist would be against the government setting a private company’s wage scale?

You know they will just raise the cut off for food stamps right?

because why the frick would i go to school for 4 years to make the same as a fry cook? Everyone's wages will have to go up.

If you were paying your assistant manager $20/hr, you cant keep them there, they must get a raise.

Do nurses in louisiana even make $20/hr?

Lets say its $20, i know my ex wasnt making that out of college, but lets say on the low end its $20.

To have the same raise as the fry cook, the nurses would need to be bumped to $35/hr.

Raising medical costs.

This isnt just mcdonalds fry cooks getting a raise and mcdonalds becoming more expensive.

While I agree fast food workers shouldn’t make a ton of money, it’s funny we are debating $42k before taxes in CA being excessive

Making a burger in Texas then shipping it to Cali to be eaten isn't cheap

Yeah, the fast food places in lake charles start people out around $15 so $20 in Cali seems about right

The problem is not paying the employees a fair wage. These fast food companies can more than handle that without raising the prices of anything.

Fast food should not be treated as a career... This is handing out money to people with no drive to do anything more. Sure there's exceptions but come on.
