Only a socialist would be against the government setting a private company’s wage scale?
Only a socialist would be for the government paying employee wages like we subsidize fast food now.
We compensate fast food employees with taxpayer money
Capitalism would be the business paying their employees wages, and if they could not survive doing so, they would go out of business. Not paying a portion of their employees compensation and relying on the government to pay the rest.
McDonald's has a program called McResources that encourages their employees to sign up for food stamps and other financial aid provided by taxpayers

Example # 12,876 why leftist shouldn't be making policy decisions - especially economic decisions. There is no thought about tomorrow, just right now.
Nate Bargatze says it well in his routine about he and his wife. "you put two dreamers together, you'll be broke and homeless living down by the river within an hour" ... That's Cali but propped up by actual workers and tourism

I mean, you can think it's a dumb law, but it's pretty anti-american to say that the people elected shouldn't be allowed to make decisions.
This is why we have 50 states, people are free to move to whichever they like

California has the sixth highest gdp in the world.
Now let's do the south.

Hopefully this ushers in robots that can center a meat patty on a bun and don't have the glands necessary to spit or jerk off on food.

Agreed. I would actually eat fast food a bit more if it wasn't for the employees.
At least you can normally tell which local joint has the best management/employees pretty quickly

because why the frick would i go to school for 4 years to make the same as a fry cook?
Fresh out of school you were making the same as a fry cook anyway, it's just your salary wasn't supplemented by taxpayers.
quote:Yeah probably.
If you were paying your assistant manager $20/hr, you cant keep them there, they must get a raise.
quote:Aren't we talking about California?
Do nurses in louisiana even make $20/hr?
Lets say its $20, i know my ex wasnt making that out of college, but lets say on the low end its $20.
To have the same raise as the fry cook, the nurses would need to be bumped to $35/hr.
But are you saying that everyone's wages need to be bumped up by the same percentage as the fry cook's minimum wage? If so that is a hilariously bad argument.

Pretty sure the illegals making food on street corners in L.A. are the only ones benefitting from this.
And don't forget Newsies buddy over at Panera who got that "bakes and sells bread separately in house" carve out.

It's dumb - but nowhere did I say that they "can't" obviously Cali residents choose this path by continually voting for it. And it is a feasible path as long as tech and tourism underwrite it
All that said... Still have a "shouldn't" stance. Raising min wage is a ridiculous tool because it has so many ramifications but leftist can't seem to comprehend - consequences doesn't seem to be an actual word in left vocabulary.
You are right though... There are 49 other states to move to if you dont like it (in Cali).. But in a similar vein, there are thousands of industries. If you don't like the pay in the fast food industry, move to a skilled industry

Therefore your raise is not a raise. It’s just inflation
But that is the thing, it isn’t inflation, because the communists have removed food prices from CPI. These people are evil.

All this does is put mom and pop businesses under. They can't compete with the pay increases that are easily absorbed by big burger.
Also read that school districts are unable to staff their cafeterias because the workers are walking off the job to go to fast food.

That's a lot of words to say that the way to solve a government caused problem is more government.

what pisses me off about this is that my wife works on a group that handles fraud reports, and makes less an hour dealing with peoples info.

I think there is a minimum number of locations before you have to comply with that.
Interesting, a resteraunt Newsome is a part owner of is hiring at under 20 dollars per hour.

The new minimum wage applies to all fast-food workers at restaurants that have at least 60 locations nationwide, except those that sell their own bread- Fox Business

I stopped eating fast food almost entirely a few months ago. It’s too unhealthy and way too expensive. I can grill chicken, which is much healthier, for way less.

Yeah, it is like 60 nation wide locations. That isn't the problem, though. If I own two or three restaurants in town, how am I going to keep my employees if I don't pay them as much as Chick-fil-a? The cost is still there, even if the small businesses aren't forced to pay it.

Do an experiment go on the uber eats app find a Macdonalds in the shittiest part of the shittiest state where gas is cheap, the rent is cheap, utilities are cheap and employees make $7.25 compared the price of the Big Mac to the McDonalds in Times Square the difference is a dollar or 2 tops inspite of the fact that all the cost are less than half.

Laplace, LA Big Mac is $4.99 by itself or $8.69 combo.
NYC, Big Mac is $6.39 and $10.99.
28% higher cost for the sandwich by itself, 26% higher for the combo. I love that you think you know the operating costs of all the franchises though to make your cliam.
