Prayers sent. Holy. frick.

No kidding, if that 875 in the Pacific pans out. Patricia was 872 at its deepest before it looped around back into Western Mexico.

"Late on October 23, dramatic weakening ensued and Patricia made landfall near Cuixmala, Jalisco, with winds of 150 mph" 150 mph winds was a godsend compared to the 215+ sustained that monster had a few days before.

I’m thinking our weekend at IOP is likely in jeopardy.

This does not look good for SC’s coast.

Supposed to be flying to Philly next Friday AM. Guess Florence might be fricking that up

But more importantly poor Charleston/Folly Beach if this holds. Went back in January and it was gorgeous

Prayers sent

We’re okay if you stay but in any case, don’t come back to the gulf coast.

You’re telling me. This is the 4th time in 4 years I’ll batton down the hatches on my little place in Wagener Terrace on the Charleston peninsula. We survived a direct hit by Hugo in ‘89, I suppose we’ll hold out for this one also.

I’m a coastal marine geologist and spend most of my days working on engineering projects on the coastline with respect to currents, storms, sea-level rise, etc. Its been nice the past 4 years having some insider info on flooding models of Charleston County for these storms.

I feel my luck is running out though

Nevertheless, you Charleston guys stand by, I’ll pass down any info I get/see about the area.

On the plus side, no need to prep anything house related. Just get the hell out of there if Florence is heading your way.

I think people on the NC coast should be a lot more concerned than people in Charleston.

One day, Charleston will sadly pay the price for its reckless overdevelopment though.

Have a flight booked into Greenville on Tuesday for a work event and headed back out on Friday morning. I would say this isn't looking good, right?

Its concerning the trends for Florence keep it going south. I'd rather not have a 140+mph Florence cross the florida peninsula into the northern gulf.

Sorry Carolinas/ mid atlantic I'm hoping for a northerly movement very soon.

Dang.

If that monster holds up, Florence County will want a new name.

I have flights out of CHS week after next for job interviews and the wife is going with the baby to New Orleans for a wedding that I was going to meet her later. Very complicated logistics already.
If this is a Cat3+ going into S.C. I might just drive everyone down with the dogs extend my stay rebook my flights and hope for the best with the house.
Guess it’s also very unlikely my two concerts at HOB in MB will happen.

I realize that but a storm this size could have a logistical impact on the whole state.

1st Florence Recon

The structure has improved overnight but it looks like a lot of dry air in the circulation.
