re: Unpopular Opinion | Those who did not lose their jobs should not receive a stimulus check

The stimulus checks are just another example of redistribution of wealth. If it were just for stimulus, send it to everyone. People who make more than the allowable limit spend money too. Send the same amount to each household. Why send more to those with more adults and children?

This is a good point if the OP thought the stimulus check was intended solely to provide for those with lost income. I took him as saying that the stimulus money is wasteful, unless it was intended for those with lost income.
I think that the bill was written as a relief package. It needed to provide financial aid quickly. There was no time to sort out who actually lost income due to the pandemic shutdown.
Unemployment benefits don’t cover those who are self-employed.
If it was intended solely as an economic stimulus package, it would have been better for the economy if the money came after the businesses were opened again.
I didn’t qualify for the stimulus, but if I had qualified, I would have sent my money to a relative who was impacted and/or given it to the local food bank.

Yes but didnt the last shutdown teach you anything, CNN/NBC/MSNBC had starving and evicted government workers on the day they missed one check. So apparently most gov workers cant need all the $$ they can get.

The Trumper disagrees with you, he's a liberal spender. Before it's all over with, he'll sign off on more.

As much as I support Trump, I don’t agree with this. Why would NBA and MLB players need this check? They are already multi millionaires
Do you even IRC Sec. 6428(c)?

Yes
And the President of the United States of America couldn't wait to sign off on it.
Democrat politicians all over the country are kicking themselves. Had they realized all they had to say to get elected was "you have to go back", they would've gladly said it.
The Trumper looooves to spend.

What the hell good does it do to pass a bill to stimulate the economy, then limit the number of checks so it can’t be used to stimulate the economy? The entire point is to get everyone spending money. You have to spread it out as much as possible.

So should those get an extra $600 a week on top of the $230 something even if they never made that much at their job in a week before?

I have been saying this for days...I don't get a penny even though my business is being damaged, because I make too much...
Teachers, and others still being paid 100%, should be ashamed to take tax dollars when they have not lost a penny of their salary. It's unmitigated bullshite. Give it to those REALLY suffering.

Fair enough but people getting $850 a week for sitting on their arse shouldn’t get it either

I hope you never teach any of my children.

I hope I never have to either. I feel bad for any child whose parent believes that all people deserve a check even though they don't.

Everyone is not getting it. Nobody in my family qualifies. I’m being penalized for being slightly too successful.

Again, that is why I don't view this as stimulus. If it is "stimulus" then everyone should get it. Once you put parameters around it, it looks like welfare. You can call it whatever you want to change the stigma of it, but that's what it is.

So there is not a fair amount of folks who, while retaining employment, took a substantial hit on their pay? Just asking because I don't want to feel alone in this category...

Unpopular opinion. Those that lost their jobs and have no savings should have to prove that they have acted financially responsible over the years before getting help, other than the unemployment insurance they may be entitled to.

I’m still employed and don’t need it but I’m planning to use it to pay someone who needs the $ to do some improvements around my house instead of doing them myself like I planned. That’s the point of the stimulus checks, to get people to spend money and stimulate the economy.
