We’ve actually been discussing the FO4 update over here for a few days: LINK

Brutally disappointed as a PC player. Visuals are the same, performance is the same, no increase in frame rate cap, UW support doesn’t actually exist. PC gamers basically got a dozen and a half bug fixes in return for breaking nearly every mod in existence, including those that fixed far more bugs.

Bethesda didn’t exactly have a sterling reputation with PC gamers these days, but they’ve been getting dragged hard over this.

Fired up fallout 4 on the ps5 and I’m loving it. I don’t remember what it looked like when I played it on Xbox one years ago but it looks and runs great on my PS5

I had managed to get working one of those massive Skyrim mod packs, with something like over 1000 mods.

A week later Bethesda released that "frick all mods" patch and I was just done with it.

The only thing I can think of, other than just abject apathy, is that Bethesda is intentionally trying to sour people on "unsupported" mods so that they can make a big push towards paid mods with their future releases.

It’s been great playing Fallout 4 on my Steam Deck.

Been playing on PC and enjoying the hell out of it. Taking my sweet time with this latest playthrough and actually building settlements along with handing out some Jet.

shite like this is why it's taking so long to get the next ES game. I'm sitting here waiting to give these assholes my money and they just keep jacking off with updates no one asked for.

In fairness, considering how little came with this "update", it probably took a team of three people a few weeks of work. Don't think this put a dent in anything currently in production

I’m a bit blown away that Bethesda hasn’t so much as commented on the issues with the new patch (beyond lying to the faces of Xbox owners), much less released any hot fixes. It’s honestly embarrassing.

Frankly, my current hardware upgrade plan was originally to prepare for Starfield. Long-term disappointment with things like this that Bethesda does - I mean, Skyrim was unplayable without mods for years. Arguably, mods are as important to the game's longevity as Bethesda.

So, they do this now?

I posted this in another thread, but figured it was worth cross posting here, being this thread is more on point:

Bethesda announced that they will be patching the next gen patch on the 13th. Hopefully this unfricks some of the disaster, but I’m not exactly holding my breath:

The year is 2011, you just finished a replay of New Vegas and have fired up Skyrim for the first time. Peak gaming optimism for open world rpgs. Fast forward 13 years…

The Witcher 2 also came out in 2011. It is crazy to think it's gotten worse 13 years instead.

Four years from Morrowind to Oblivion. Five years from Oblivion to Skyrim.

It’s been 13 years and we still don’t even have a projected release date for the next ES game.

It used to be a series I was passionate about, but at this part, I have a hard time bringing myself to give a shite. It’s going to be 15+ years, and we’ll likely end up with the equivalent of FO4 or Starfield.

Bethesda just doesn’t seem to get why people used to be passionate about their games and why they no longer are.

Next Gen Patch 2 is out and... jesus...

LINK

Alright, in a nutshell, it sounds like they unfricked the update on Xbox, which is good:

quote:

Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5 Display Settings
Thanks to your feedback, we’ve been able to implement the ability to control your graphic fidelity and performance. We highly recommend you run with the default settings but now you can change your options to better fit your playstyle and display.
Frame Rate Target
Frame Rate Target allows you to choose between 30, 40, and 60 (default). It is important to note that to select 40, your display must be able to support 120hz.
Visual and Performance Prioritization
You can now choose between Visuals and Performance (default) while trying to maintain frame rate target. If you choose Frame Rate Target of 60, we recommend selecting Performance. Both modes may adjust internal resolution dynamically when scenes or action get heavier.
Please note both modes can only be changed from the main menu.

The bad is that this is the entirety of the bug fix list:

quote:

General stability improvements
Fixed visual issue with certain imagespaces
Auto HDR is re-enabled (Xbox Series S|X)
Fixed issue where reserved space was not displayed correctly in load order menu (Xbox Series S|X)
Fixed issue with character name field when in widescreen mode. (PC)
Fixed an issue that occasionally caused bundles to not fully download and could cause a crash
Fixed an issue with material swaps
Fixed an issue with load order that would break DLC until a restart after downloading mods (PlayStation 5)
Fixed an issue that would occasionally cause a crash if you returned to the Main Menu with queued mods still downloading (PlayStation 5)
Fixed an issue that could cause the Creation Club menu to not appear (Microsoft Store)
Fixed a crash that could occur when connecting to the network after a suspend/resume with the network disabled (Xbox One)

As an example of how fricking lazy this is, see that "fixed issue with character name field" entry? Instead of fixing the HUD to scale with ultrawide resolutions, they simply moved the name entry field during character creation so that it would no longer be utterly game breaking. Hud is still horribly stretched instead of properly scaled. Oh, and this broke all of the basic mods that fixed that issue, once again

Well shite…I was downloading both of these since I haven’t played them in years. Is it a disaster?

If you're on Xbox or PS, it should roughly be the game you remember. If you're on PC and didn't play with mods, it should roughly be the game you remember.

If you're on PC and play with mods, they are likely all broken.

ETA: The above is specifically for FO4. I haven't been following the Skyrim update.

I started Skyrim again. It’s a little buggy, but not too bad.
