Either north bossier, Haughton, or south Shreveport (Ellerbe Rd area). Other than that, good luck and God speed.

For a student at the Med ctr, if you want a house, I would be looking for a house in Broadmoor, the 500-900 blocks of South Highlands between Ockley and Pierremont, and East of Fairfield between Kings and Betty Virginia park.

The locales listed above are gonna be cumbersome for the hours your kid is gonna be keeping. Haughton/NoBo simply not practical for commute in that situation. She will hate it.

Shreveport violent crime is almost all either domestic voilence or drug related or extraordinarilly bad luck, you pretty much have to look for trouble. Property crime can be largely avoided with good sense and some precautions.

I'm not going to dox myself, but I have esoteric knowledge of the areas we are talking about and the work/school environment and logistics as well.

What’s the budget? There’s some really good suggestions and I’m partial to the Ellerbe area. Problem is with places like 12 Oakes is you’re looking at 400-450k buy in. And that’s even if you can actually grab one before somebody else does. (They do have a smaller homes area but I don’t know what they go for, still gonna be $$).

South Highlands is beautiful as well and more central to the city.

Another choice could be the Springlake area. Some of the prettiest places in Shreveport and very nice.

Highly recommend south highlands. Preferably between ockley at the north, Fairfield at the west, thora at the south, and Gilbert at the east.

Yet another east of 49 south of Kings.

Blanchard, Haughton, North and South Bossier are fine but the commute will beian issue. Jimmie Davis Bridge construction will make that south Bossier. commute hell.

You DO NOT want to be a PA student and live in north bossier that would be a massive pain for both school and anything g social.

I would look in the South Highlands area. I lived there and didn’t have any trouble (granted there are occasional problems). It is 5 minutes to campus. Lots of homes for rent around there.

If you want her further out look south of town (gotta get south of the ghetto that you pass through on line). That wouldn’t be a bad drive up 49.

The people saying north bossier are giving good advice for families.

Stay east of 49, south of kings hwy and north of cedar groove (or much further south).

I grew up in Bossier and went to LSUHSC-Shreveport for med school. She doesn’t want to live in Bossier. I lived there my first year and it was a pain in the arse driving back and forth everyday. And like another poster said the I-20 construction would make that unbearable.

South Highlands is where a large portion of med/PA/PT students live. We lived in South Highlands for 4 years and really liked it. We actually still own our house from medical school and rent to current PA students. If we don’t sell in a few months when they move we will be looking to rent again.

I would look in this area. She is gonna want to live near her PA friends and near the school. It’s extremely close to the medical school and is safe. I don’t recall anyone from my class ever having safety issues and our renters have never reported issues.

1) as I said I agree with south highlands
2) full disclosure a girl did get killed inside a home on Fairfield within the last few years due to a rolling gun battle. But I lived there for 4 years and never had a real problem. And I walked all around that area for exercise (wouldn’t go after dark though).

BR does have some areas that are fine with older homes and pretty safe (relatively speaking) near LSU lakes

I live off walking distance to Ivars and the lsu lakes. Regularly have fools pulling car doors. Most recently one of the fools had a gun.

I was just in Shreveport and got a mini tour, I’d recommend Bossier City

Gotta admit, my only impression of Shreveport is traveling E->W along I-20 - not real favorable in appearance. I’m sure there are nicer looking areas away from the hwy.

There is basically nothing nice along the I 20 stretch. The part along I20 in the west part of Shreveport used to be nice middle class but is now ghetto. You have to go south of I 20 to find anything nice.

The city has big problems but it does offer a low cost of living and believe it or not you can actually use SOME of the public schools. There are some decent magnet elementary schools. Byrd high school is still good. Produces lots of preppy types who go on to LSU Greek scene and the med school in Shreveport usually has a fair contingent of Byrd alums. I wouldn’t send a kid of mine to Caddo magnet (even though it is good academically) just because it tends to be a weird artsy scene.

There are big issues with city governance and stuff but for the most part if you stick to yourself I think the chance of being the victim of violent crime isn’t super high. You would quickly figure out where not to go at night.
