Ontario Knife Company closing.

OKC closing factory.
Parent company Servotronics has sold the name and remaining inventory of products to Blue Ridge Knives. The factory in Olean, NY is closing effective tomorrow though with no info on the tooling or if another venture will restart production elsewhere. Definitely bad news as the RAT D2 is such a bargain and they made great machetes and fixed blade knives you could truly do hard work with. Hopefully someone will get the tooling and setup shop again.

I just picked up a D2 RAT 2 a few months ago. Glad I did.

At one time USMC KaBar knives were made by Ontario.

I think OKC has had contracts for some production runs of military bayonets but there are several suppliers out there. Bayonets are so rarely issued now that the current stock will probably last decades.

Pretty sure these are made in Taiwan, so will still be around under another name.

Yep it is Taiwan. Thing is sharper than hell. I cut myself pretty good about a week after I had it. I can attest it is sharp.

I'm tempted to order one even though I don't need it. I carried a Rat II D2 for a few years until I lost it in the gulf while throwing a cast net. I replaced it with a Mini Bugout but I still miss the Rat. It just feels good in your hand.

The RAT 1 & 2 are my favorite beater folders.

Rat 2 for me. I've lost count of how many I've bought over the years for me and for gifts to friends and customers. It's the perfect combination of quality, feel and price.

Cutco bought Ka-Bar quite some time back. Also in Olean, IIRC.
