We take ours off, but as many have said, don't ask others to. I wish it was customary, but since it isn't, I don't take mine off elsewhere. Would end up with dirty arse socks at most people's house.

I'm with the Japanese on this one.

I tend to get out of my street shoes shortly after getting back in the house and opting for either flip-flops or slip-on slippers

Same goes for the wife when she gets home from work. She will get in some comfortable clothes and a pair of slippers.

And no, I don't insist any company loses their shoes at the door------we're not anal or rude to our guests.

there has never been a moment where I am farting around the house or sitting on the couch where thought "damn I wish i had some shoes on right now"

i don't even wear shoes while I am working out in the garage.

We generally take our shoes off at the front door when it’s just family here. But we never tell company to take off shoes.

Same here. Usually take them off at the door unless we know we are going to be in and out (bringing groceries in, grilling, etc.). If we have a bunch of people over we don’t worry about it.. floors will be dirty anyway. I’ve never asked anyone else to take their shoes off in my house.

I wore shoes inside all the times as a kid and in college. Now it feels kind of weird to have them on inside, and it does keep the floors cleaner.

Our downstairs is "luxury" vinyl, so shoes can stay on, but have to be removed to go upstairs, which is carpet. We have 2 dogs who spread more water throughout the kitchen area than they actually drink, so I would be in the same, wet sock boat as you if I didn't have some type of footwear on.

I take mine off if they're wet or dirty. Otherwise, leave them on and take them off whenever I know that I'm done going back outside for the day. We have dogs and hardwoods so if we haven't vacuumed within the last couple hours, you will have hair stuck to the bottom of your socks. We vacuum frequently but there is still potential for dog hair at any given time. Is what it is.

Slippers in the house. Shoes outside. Only time without shoes is shower time then slippers go on. I’m OCD. I must be clean always especially feet and hands.

We completely remodeled our house a few years ago and had all new 3/4" wood floors put in. I lobbied for no shoes in the house, even for guests, as it makes cleaning the floors a breeze. The wife, who's not as OCD as me, nixed that idea.

That said, we rarely wear shoes when home inside the house, they get kicked off in the closet.

This right here.

There’s nothing worse than stepping on earrings or Legos when barefoot.

Shoes are left on a rack in the mud room the minute we walk inside the house. Guests do as they please, on or off.
