The privatization is only for administration of benefits. The state manages eligibility for nations and is the only entity who can remove someone from the Medicaid rolls. The private managed care organizations can and do report beneficiaries to the state who seem to have moved out of state. However, if those members receive services out of state the MCO is obligated to treat them as eligible beneficiaries and enter into single case agreements with the provider when possible.

Would like to see how much of every dollar collected via taxes is wasted through fraud.

Whatever amount it is, federal agencies would argue that every dollar in fraud generates $6 in economic activity. Government math is the best.

But it's just a small amount of the total budget! Fraud isn't that big of a deal!!!

The same LDH that threw a colossal fit when the legislature cut their funding this year by $100 million at the last second? LOL

Usually, the government has some form of audit/reviews and a way to fine/penalize the private companies.

I am on disability. How can I check to see if I was automatically enrolled in something like that?

We know they won't but it sounds like these health care providers needs to repay the state. You know damn well they would come after your or I if they incorrectly sent us money.

i am a "provider". it is not my responsibility to make sure someone is living here. that is the responsibility of the people providing free health insurance. my job is to see the patient and take care of the patient.

and it happens all the time. its way more than 100 million since 2016. i ask patients that have Texas addresses and they say oh I still live in Louisiana but I'm over working right now.

Every govt outlay needs to be audited. I think all the systems are corrupt.
Who we can get trustworthy to audit? That's the tough part.

So this is fully the fault of the state, then? The private companies only go off of what the state tells them?

DHH, Labor, and DCFS will be audited at length in 2024. Predicting 1 billion or more in total fraud/incorrectly paid benefits. The waste that occurred over the last 8 years and lack of oversight will be shocking.

If Louisiana DPH updated to what Florida has - where you can call a phone number and put in the applicant’s social security number or resident alien number and see if they have benefits in that state - this wouldn’t be a problem

But Louisiana likes to keep people on Medicaid for the fed $$!

This will be interesting. The incompetence at the State level for LA is horrendous. Government is always ran terribly and wasteful but LA takes or into a whole new level.

Louisiana absolutely did not privatize Medicaid. Managed Care Organizations have nothing to do with determining Medicaid eligibility they just get a monthly payment from the state to administer services. So instead of the State paying for 100% of the costs of Medicaid services an individual receives the State pays a single fee per person each month to the MCOs who then pay for the services.

The State still determines Medicaid eligibility and sends that eligibility information to the MCOs. It's the States fault for not verifying the residency of these individuals.
