How much in terms of subsidies are you willing to give up so you can virtue signal in your "cool innovative" EV?

Just don’t tell DoR you have a hybrid. As inefficient as Louisiana’s bureaucratic machine is, Rev will never have the conversation with LSP/OMV.
And no - that coin will probably never make it to “roads.”

As well they should and it should be more

Why do you think you don’t have to pay anything for using the roads in our state?

you are fricking retarded if you think a Chevy bolt does more damage to a road than an F150.
And you're fricking retarded comparing a bolt to a full size truck. Why not compare it to a checy Sonic or Cruze?

Damn, some of you people are dumb!
pretty sure he's talking about comparable sized vehicles.
an ICE compact car doesn't weigh as much as an F-250 so wouldn't be compared to each other either.
the electric Ford F-150 lightning weighs about 1,500 more pounds than the heaviest gas model F-150, and about 2,500 pounds more than the lightest one.
that 2,500 pounds is more than some compact cars for sale today.
so that Lightning is roughly equivalent weight wise to driving a V6 F-150 with a Mazda Miata in the bed.

I wonder if it actually makes it over to the LADOT?
Yes, because Revenue collects money for most of the agencies in the state and doles it out to them.

I thought in the other thread we were arguing that ev weight wasn't that different, thus why would their tires wear down so quickly.
But I see in this thread that now EVs weigh too much and damage the road.

To me, it sounds like the EV and hybrid drivers are on average getting off easy with the $60/$120 annual hit.
It’s break even for average drivers. Drive less you over pay, drive more you under pay.
Not by my math.
What mpg are you using?
I used 30.

Our roads beds are crappy and heavier EVs will have a negative impact.

EVs are heavier than ICE vehicles and cause more damage to roadways.
Shouldn't there be a fee for that?
First, the primary issue here is not the incremental increase in road wear by heavier EVs it is the fact EVs don't pay fuel taxes and therefore don't contribute to road maintenance in the main way ICE vehicles do. So EV drivers should absolutely contribute to this. TX arguably overestimated the number which could be seen as punitive but it appears LA did the basic math about right.
Second, lets explore the actual extra wear caused by heavier EVs and compare that to heavier vehicles and see what it would take to level that playing field.
The basic way to determine relative road wear for two vehicles is using the Generalized Fourth Power Law. While this has been in use for longer than most here have been alive it isn't perfect and there are a ton of variables it doesn't take into account but it is much more accurate than just using our feels.
The formula is very simple: take the heavier average axle weight of two vehicles and divide that by the average axle weight of the lighter vehicle then take the quotient to the 4th power:
The results for several comparisons:
I used the average of the weight range for each of the vehicles which probably does not equate to the average weight of all that model sold but it is a basic starting point.
BMW 3 Series vs Tesla Model 3: The Model 3 causes 1.09 times the road wear
F150 vs the 3 series and Model 3: The F150 does 2.85 times the road wear as the 3 Series and 2.6 times the wear of the Model 3
Escalade (non-ESV) vs BMW and Tesla: The Escalade does 5.56 (.223 ) times the wear of the 3 Series and 5.08 times the wear of the Tesla
Fully loaded Semi vs the BMW and Tesla (not the Semi has 5 axles) 295.2 x the wear of the BMW and 269.8 times that of the Model 3
This shows that EV owners should definitely be paying a fee to cover the their share of road maintenance but if you are interested in fairness vs punitive action then modern full size truck and SUV drivers should be paying a lot more than they do now, not to mention what semi owners should be paying.
"Fairness" is often a multi-edged sword.
TLDR: EV owners have definitely been getting over on the man, pickup and large SUV owners are also getting over on the man and by extension their fellow man.

But those same heavier vehicles - eg F-250 - get worse mileage than your baselined vehicle. Worse mileage leads to more fuel usage which leads to more gas taxes paid.
Now whether that is enough to make it "fair" - who knows.
