Just noticed that Cup gets ZERO practice before qualifying and the Duel races for the Daytona 500.

Remember when there was a Speedweeks? Now it’s like Speed 4-5 days.

And Denny Hamlin still hasn't won the championship. That is all.

Just watched the first episode of the Netflix show. Pretty good. I thought they did a good job of explaining things about how NASCAR works for those who haven’t watched it before.

If this race is any indication of how the short track package is going to look this year, then it’s still bad.

I was listening to Sirius/XM NASCAR Radio’s morning show this morning and some goober called in and argued that instead of moving the Clash to Saturday night, they should have waited 3 days to run it on Wednesday. He acted like the teams had plenty of time to wait because they didn’t have to leave for Daytona until Monday/Tuesday of next week.

Of course, just a couple of segments before this call, William Byron’s crew chief was on the same show and talked about how today is engine install day at Hendrick Motorsports for their Daytona 500 cars. So, yeah, waiting 3 extra days to run an exhibition race in Los Angeles wouldn’t have caused any issues for the teams.

Good clip from Dale Jr.’s podcast today where he discusses how he misses the Clash being at Daytona, how it was a great appetizer to the Daytona 500, and how much he misses having a true “Daytona Speedweeks.”

YouTube

Of course, even if it were to go back to Daytona at some point, the Super Bowl being a week later than it used to be has messed up having the Clash held the weekend before the Daytona 500. In order to get that back, the Daytona 500 would need to be a week later (fun fact: it has been a week later before).

Daytona 500 qualifying coming up at 7:00 PM CST on FS1.

I’d like to see Kyle Busch or Brad Keselowski win the Daytona 500 this year. Both guys are deserving of it.

Forecast for this weekend just isn’t good. Would not shock me if no races are run on Saturday (ARCA and Xfinity) or Sunday (Daytona 500). NWS forecast for Daytona Beach through Monday night:

Today (Friday)

Partly sunny, with a high near 75. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east southeast in the afternoon.

Tonight (Friday Night)

Scattered showers, mainly after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. East wind around 5 mph becoming west in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Saturday

Showers, mainly after 1pm. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 66. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday Night

Showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 54. North wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Sunday

Showers likely, mainly before 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 60. Windy, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday Night

A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Washington's Birthday (Monday)

Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Monday Night

Mostly clear, with a low around 49. North wind around 10 mph.
