Kansas Ban On Child Transgender Medicalization Fails To Beat Veto After Two GOP Lawmakers Flip Votes

quote:

Two Republicans broke ranks and voted with Democrats to tank the bill. State House Representatives Susan Concannon and Jesse Borjon voted against overriding the governor’s veto even though both had previously voted in favor of the bill. “We hear of bullying and ask authorities to make it stop,” Concannon said from the House floor. “We hear about mental health, about suicide, and ask why. We’re not listening to the impacted youth. Government involvement is not the answer.”

quote:

“I voted for this bill in the past due to concerns about the surgery,” she continued. “With further consideration, this bill is vague beyond the surgery. These decisions belong between the team of professionals and the parents. The youth need our help, not government overreach. To all who have reached out, I hear you, and vote to sustain the governor’s veto.” The other Republican who voted against the bill, Borjon, said he “strongly supports” prohibiting gender reassignment surgery and “limiting” the use of hormone blockers, but that some parts of the bill “go too far in restricting mental and behavioral health care for children.”

Weak?

From the comment they believe in leaving such serious decisions, short of surgery, to the parents and their doctors.

Some of you really like the idea of government being involved in all sorts of individual medical decisions. Is that a conservative point of view?

She'd rather them kill themselves in adulthood after they realize that they can never have a normal life because adults allowed them to irreparably mutilate themselves in childhood.

I am 1000% against this grooming behavior of the left but the second guys logic at least on the surface seems like he’s giving the totality of the bill a lot of thought and feels like it needs to be refined and not jammed through causing unintended consequences later. Seems like he is anti surgery and anti hormone blocker from his statement.

I’m not going to pretend to know what this bill entails in its entirety and maybe it’s just a sound bite.

Hopefully they can pass one that is more veto proof.

The only restriction on mental and behavioral health care for children is that it bans state employees and state facilities from promoting "social transitioning" which is defined in the bill as "acts other than medical or surgical interventions that are undertaken for the purpose of presenting as a member of the opposite sex, including the changing of an individual's preferred pronouns or manner of dress."

From the bill: Section 2 (d) "Except to the extent required by the first amendment to the United States constitution, a state property, facility or building shall not be used to promote or advocate the use of social transitioning, medication or surgery as a treatment for a child whose perceived gender or perceived sex is inconsistent with such child's sex." and Section 2 (f) "A state employee whose official duties include the care of children shall not, while engaged in those official duties, provide or promote the use of social transitioning, medication, or surgery as a treatment for a child whose perceived gender or perceived sex is inconsistent with such child's sex."

It’s who they are.

They’re not fighters.

They’re timid, scared.
