Going on trip to Spain/Italy in few weeks. Wondering if we should get an international plan for our ATT phones. I’m thinking of just turning roaming off and using WiFi/whatsapp/imessage. Also will probably get VPN. In laws are going too but have android phones, any suggestions?

International plans aren't that much. It was nice to have 5g imo

Att has a plan you can add for free that will cost $10/day for each day you use your phone in most of Europe. Doesn’t cost anything if you don’t use it but can add up for a long trip with multiple phones.

Wifi isn't hard to find in Europe but might as well get a plan they aren't too expensive and a huge convenience to not have to worry about it
Just use whatsapp if they don't have iphones otherwise

I’ve used my T Mobile plan for 5 g data for 7 days I think at a time. It’s under $20 I think.. I would think they all have a plan of some type for a short time period.

In the past, I've opted for an international plan through Verizon, which you can pay by the day or flat $100 for 30 days. When I'm international for 10+ days, paying $100 makes more sense.
However, I've used Airalo the last few international trips. It is an eSIM store that allows you access digital cards in almost every country. Incredibly cheap (relative to US carrier plans), easy-to-use app. Might be worth checking out.

I use the ATT International plan every time I go to India, Middle East and Asia-Pac - it is worth every penny.

Att works great in Europe unlimited roaming and data is like $10 a day. I had reception everywhere.

I’ve traveled with and without it. I’ll never travel without again.

I just got back from France and I have AT&T.
Get it on your phone. Go to your AT&T account and activate the international plan. You can use the phone in the normal manner. Every time you do so in a 24 hour period, they charge you $10 for the first phone that you use and $5 for the second. If you don’t use it for a day you don’t get charged. Easy.

I used Google Fi last summer and it worked great. International data, calls and txt are included in their $65 /mo plan. Once I got back home I went back to their less expensive basic plan. US Mobile which is TMobile has a similar deal.

Just bought a plan for a child who’s there for a summer. Holafly unlimited data plan was $135 for 90 days. It was cheaper for shorter durations. You can use as hot spot as well. She’ll turn off roaming and use WhatsApp. Should also be able to use apple messages between iPhone users and FaceTime audio.
