Yes, they concealed those payments. By they, I mean Cohen.
Why? because it was an extortion scheme by Davidson/Daniels that Cohen was party too.
Davidson was the extortionist. He convinced Cohen to hide put the payments under 1 layer. And then kicked back to him for his trouble.
But what Cohen didn't realize that kickback was Davidsons "good faith" guarantee that Cohen wouldn't rat on him.
Now that it is being adjudicated, the only way Cohen can keep his part in extorting his boss buried is to come up with an alternative reason to hide those payments... and that was just what a politicized prosecutor needed.
It's too late but every gift, contribution, or dollar that Cohen received since 2016 was tracked back to its source; and they found Davidson. But these are the same Feds (Coangello) who are participating in his prosecution that found that kickback.
By naming him witness they can deflect any discovery of what they found as far as that kickback during his fed prosecution as witness intimidation.

The US Congress paid out $17MM in “hush” settlements between 1997 and 2017.

Trump's company is private . He can do whatever he wants with his business records as long as he pays all taxes he owes . I can set up an LLC and create records claiming i've made $billions trading and no law is broken .
the whole purpose of whats going on is to drag it out in media with stories like this that are as bad as something you'd read in National Enquirer / Drudge to try and convince the public something bad / illegal happened

As I understood it the crime is a misdemeanor unless involved in an election which upgrades it to a felony by NY law.
There were some mentions that this law only applied to state elections and Trump was in a federal election...

By falsifying, you mean logging that expense as “legal service” and not campaign funding?
All of this was investigated and dropped by federal authorities with only Campaign Finance violations… as every campaign has.
Only to be picked up, years later and passed statute of limitations, by Bragg for political theatre. This isn’t about Justice.
By Braggs precedent, Clinton will be charged for falsifying business records by accounting the multiple payments for Steele Dossier under “legal service”.
